Omschrijving
Theater Tuschinski. Bioscoop in uitbundige art deco, de stijl die destijds internationaal gekoppeld werd aan het nieuwe medium van de speelfilm. Het gebouw werd in 1918 ontworpen door H.L. de Jong en in 1921 geopend. Hoge voorgevel met twee flankerende torens met koepeldaken; het gehele oppervlak is bekleed met geglazuurde tegels en keramieksculpturen, ontworpen door C. Bartels en B. Jordens. In de gevel vier monumentale bronzen lampen. Inwendig is de lobby gaaf bewaard gebleven, de decoratie in deze ruimte is ontworpen door J. Gidding; kleurige plafond- en wandschilderingen en het tapijt, alles met pauwmotief, en voorts het houtsnij- en siersmeedwerk. De bioscoopzaal is gewijzigd; van belang is de ruimtelijke indeling, de podiumomlijsting met naar voorbeeld van de theaterbouw aangebrachte, maar in een bioscoop echter nutteloze zijbalkons. Drieklaviers theaterorgel met electrische tractuur, gemaakt door Wurlitzer in 1921, afkomstig uit een Brusselse bioscoop, uitgebreid in 1943 door Strunk waarbij registers werden toegevoegd en de speeltafel geheel werd vernieuwd.

Description
Theater Tuschinski. Cinema in exuberant art deco, the style that was internationally associated at that time with the new medium of cinema. The building was designed in 1918 by H.L. de Jong and opened in 1921. High front facade with two flanking towers with cupola roofs; the entire surface is covered with glazed tiles and ceramic sculptures, designed by C. Bartels and B. Jordens. In the facade four monumental bronze lamps. Internally the lobby has remained intact, the decoration in this space was designed by J. Gidding; colourful ceiling and wall paintings and the carpet, all with peacock motif, and furthermore the woodcarving and ornamental ironwork. The cinema hall has been altered; the spatial layout is of importance, the stage frame with side balconies applied following the example of theatre construction, but however unnecessary in a cinema. Three-manual theatre organ with electric action, made by Wurlitzer in 1921, coming from a Brussels cinema, enlarged in 1943 by Strunk whereby registers were added and the console was entirely renewed.
