Inleiding
WOONHUIS gebouwd in 1909 voor het hoofd der school, in opdracht van het Ministerie van Justitie. Ontwerp, woningtype VI (in deze vorm eenmalig), afkomstig van W.C. Metzelaar. De naam 'Leering door Voorbeeld' is asymmetrisch in voorgevel geplaatst.
Omschrijving
In sobere en functionele stijl uitgevoerd woonhuis. Opgetrokken uit baksteen en gedekt door een aan een zijde doorgetrokken zadeldak met pannen en windveren. Een schoorsteen in voorste dakschild; eenvoudig geprofileerde goot; staafankers. De gevelindeling wordt bepaald door licht getoogde 6-ruits schuiframen met luiken, 4-ruits steekramen op de verdieping; hardstenen vensterbanken. De voorgevel springt aan de linkerzijde even in. Portaal onder lessenaardak; opgeklampte deur met licht getoogde 2-ruits bovenlicht. De zuidelijke zijgevel heeft enkele kleine ramen.
Waardering
Essentieel onderdeel van het uitzonderlijk waardevolle complex Veenhuizen en van architectonisch, typologisch en stedebouwkundig belang. Zeldzaam.

Dwelling executed in sober and functional style. Constructed of brick and covered by a gabled roof with tiles and roof ridges continuous on one side. A chimney in the front roof section; simply profiled gutter; rod anchors. The facade arrangement is determined by slightly arched 6-paned sash windows with shutters, 4-paned stud windows on the upper storey; hardstone window sills. The front facade steps in slightly on the left side. Porch beneath a catslide roof; clamped door with slightly arched 2-paned fanlight. The southern side facade has a few small windows.
Evaluation
Essential component of the exceptionally valuable complex Veenhuizen and of architectural, typological and urban design importance. Rare.
