Description

Situated at the western village edge on a newly laid-out square - following the demolition of old mill buildings - a GRAIN MILL, built in 1869 to replace an older, burnt-down predecessor and named "oog in 't zeil". The mill was presumably taken out of service in 1923, and subsequently stripped of its milling machinery, sails, cap and stagework. In 1986-87 these components were reconstructed and the mill was made operational again.

Description

The hull of the Cothense mill - originally a top-driven mill - is constructed in brickwork on a circular ground plan, tapering upwards and partially rendered. The mill hull, now comprising six storeys, is still authentic in its masonry. On the ground floor a set of double carriage doors beneath a round-arched fanlight with spoke-shaped subdivision; furthermore round windows all around, some with shutters, and round doors leading to the - reconstructed - stagework.
