Inleiding
Blok van twee WONINGEN gebouwd in 1901 voor de commies en de veenbaas in opdracht van het Ministerie van Justitie. Ontwerp, woningtype IV (nr 18) en nr V (nr 20), van W.C. Metzelaar. De naam Huis en Haard staat symmetrisch in de voorgevel.
Omschrijving
Evenwijdig aan de weg gelegen, functioneel gebouwd dubbel woonhuis met verdieping en aangebouwd toegangsportaal, opgetrokken uit baksteen en gedekt door een aan een zijde doorgetrokken zadeldak met pannen en windveren; schoorsteen in het voorste dakschild; eenvoudig geprofileerde goot, staafankers. De gevels zijn symmetrisch ingedeeld door lichtgetoogde vensters met luiken, hardstenen vensterbanken en oorspronkelijk 12-ruits schuiframen (thans resteert daarvan nog een 6-ruits bovenlicht) en paarsgewijs geplaatste 4- ruits steekramen. Hoofdweg 18 heeft een portaal onder lessenaardak; opgeklampte deur met lichtgetoogd 2-ruits bovenlicht en 6-ruits schuifraam. Hoofdweg 20 met aanbouw met zadeldak; opgeklampte deur met lichtgetoogd 2-ruits bovenlicht en 6-ruits schuifraam.

The facades are symmetrically laid out by light-arched windows with shutters, hardstone window sills and originally 12-pane sash windows (now only a 6-pane fanlight remains) and paired 4-pane transom windows.
