Inleiding
In de bossen gelegen in 1933 gebouwd vakantiehuis naar ontwerp van architect E. Rozema uit Appingedam. Oorspronkelijk bedoeld als vakantiewoning maar nu permanent bewoond. Het gebouw is een goed voorbeeld van expressieve op de Amsterdamse School-stijl geinspireerde architectuur.
Omschrijving
Deels onderkelderd flesvormig gebouw met basement van gesinterde baksteen, houten wanden en aan zuidzijde overstekende rieten kap met schoorsteen. De kleurstelling van de kozijnen in rood met zacht geel is nog oorspronkelijk. Entree en glas-in-lood raam (ten behoeve van het trappenhuis) aan oostzijde. Aan de zuidkant wordt de overhellende kapconstructie geaccentueerd door zware houten liggers met schoren. Aan westelijke zijde ligt een zonneterras met geglazuurde tegels en een ommuring met glazen windscherm.
Waardering
Vakantiehuis van architectuurhistorisch en algemeen cultuurhistorisch belang (namelijk als representant van de ontwikkelingen in de recreatieve sector); het gebouw is gaaf (met inbegrip van de oorspronkelijke uitwendige kleurstelling) en is qua type voor de provincie Drenthe zeldzaam.

Partially basmented bottle-shaped building with basement of sintered brick, timber walls and on the south side an overhanging thatched roof with chimney. The colouring of the window frames in red with soft yellow is still original. Entrance and leaded light window (for the purpose of the stairwell) on the east side. On the south side the overhanging roof truss structure is accentuated by heavy timber beams with braces. On the west side there is a sun terrace with glazed tiles and an enclosure with glazed windscreen.
Appraisal
Holiday house of architectural-historical and general cultural-historical importance (namely as a representative of developments in the recreational sector); the building is intact (including the original external colour scheme) and is of a type rare for the province of Drenthe.
