Description

The building, constructed around 1860 with a plastered cornice-topped facade, is constructed on a rectangular footprint and has one storey beneath a saddle roof clad with tiles. The symmetrical front facade of plastered brickwork with false joints has a well-preserved nineteenth-century shop front. The symmetrical front has an entrance with a double door with basket-arch door windows and relief ornaments in the spandrels beneath a fanlight and moulded soffit, to which a gaper is attached. The wide door posts are designed as pilasters with narrow casements and capitals. The display windows on either side have a plastered plinth and T-windows with horizontal elliptical arch and relief ornaments in the spandrels. Before the outer wall piers stand two wooden columns resting on projecting bases, which carry a heavy entablature with cornice. The INTERIOR also still contains the original built-in display cabinets with the stained glass representation of a pulley in the leaded glass windows. The residential storey is three-bayed with wide terracotta mouldings on the squared-off T-sash windows. The cornice-topped facade has, above the entablature, a slightly narrower closed attic crown with rose window. The left side facade is roughcast and the gutter is supported by blocks. The right side facade is of clean hand-formed brickwork and has box gutters on blocks. The building has a lower extension on the rear.

Valuation

The characteristic building has architectural-historical and cultural-historical value as a fine and well-preserved example of a nineteenth-century shop/residence. A well-preserved shop front from this period is moreover rare, especially if the shop still retains the original function (pharmacy).
