Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The RESIDENTIAL HOUSE (with property division) built around 1885 is characteristic of late nineteenth century residential architecture for the wealthy burgher. Although the mansion, constructed in eclectic style, cannot be called a specific representative of the neo-renaissance architectural style, the influence of this style is nevertheless found in the details. Description
The house, drawn up from a rectangular floor plan, has one storey under a hipped roof covered with flat Frisian tiles and with a cut-off apex. The facades with cornice are enlivened with bands of yellow brickwork and provided with arched window openings and a corniced entablature on the front and the right side facade. The five-bay-wide front facade with plastered plinth and fluted brick pilasters is symmetrical and has a low stoep of yellow brickwork running along the entire front facade with a property division of wrought-iron beams between cast-iron bollards, which are fastened to the facades with a chain. The entrance bay is placed between pilasters and is provided with a portico with stone step, in which the original casement door with turnpike needle, cast-iron ironwork and ornamental calves' head beneath arched fanlight is located. The portico and the windows on either side, as well as the T-windows on the storey and the windows in the side facades stand beneath stretches with closing and setting stones. The windows in the right side facade are hung with Venetian blinds. A small cast-iron ventilation grille is located in the upper right of this facade. Against the rear facade stands a terrace with veranda dating from the time of construction, which is provided with a profiled cornice, a side wall of plastered brickwork with profiled moulding without filling, a largely glazed side wall with glazing bars above a basement of plastered brickwork and latticework with diagonal and hanging ties between square wooden columns. The window openings on the rear are not original, nor are the small outbuildings under flat roof. The rear facade rises less high beneath a roof section drawn through from the roof truss. The more austere left side facade is provided with rod anchors, a high door placed above the cellar, arched windows with Venetian blinds, a cast-iron ventilation grille on the storey and a facade termination in the form of a profiled gutter moulding. Assessment
The well-preserved, characteristic late nineteenth century house (with property division) is a visually distinctive object in an area that falls under the protected townscape, in which much valuable late nineteenth century and early twentieth century residential architecture is concentrated. The house therefore has both architectural-historical and ensemble value.
