Omschrijving
Volgens de principes van het Nieuwe Bouwen door P.J. Elling in 1929 ontworpen, geheel vrijstaand WOONHUIS MET GARAGE. Het bevat twee bouwlagen en is samengesteld uit cubische bouwvolumes, op een L-vormige grondslag, met een langere en hogere parij aan de Z.W.zijde, die rondom is voorzien van een smalle daklijst en een iets lagere, kortere partij aan de N.O.zijde, waarop via een overdekte plaats de garage aansluit, die langs de schuine rooilijnen van de straat is geprojecteerd. Het geheel is opgetrokken in baksteen, met vlakke witgepleisterde muren op een ongepleisterde plint en doorbroken door iets verdiept aangebrachte vensters, waarvan de varierende grootte op een vaste maat-eenheid is gebaseerd, en door luifels boven de ingang aan de N.zijde en boven het terras aan de W.zijde, alsmede het uitgebouwde balcon op de verdieping aan de Z.zijde. De vensters zijn gevat in smalle stalen kozijnen met verticale onderverdeling en zijn harmonisch - zonder symmetrie - over de gevels verdeeld nu eens gekoppeld dan weer zelfstandig geplaatst.
Links van de ingang bevindt zich over vrijwel de volle hoogte van de N.gevel een langgerekt venster ter verlichting van het trappenhuis. Direct daarop sluit het lagere N.O.blok aan waarvan het dakterras wordt omgeven door een stalen buisleuning die zich voortzet langs de buitentrap waarmee het balcon aan de Z.zijde is verbonden. Evenals aan de W.zijde bevindt zich aan de O.zijde een door grote tuindeuren bereikbaar terras; alleen aan de W.zijde wordt dit terras omgeven door een lage witgepleisterde borstwering, en overdekt door een luifel, waarboven nog een horizontale vensterstrook is aangebracht. De lage garage is in vergelijkbare trant ontworpen. Woonhuis vanwege de algehele architectonische en technische vormgeving (zowel in exterieur als in interieur) en situering als representatief voorbeeld van de Nederlandse bijdrage aan het Nieuwe Bouwen uit de periode 1920-40 van algemeen belang wegens de betekenis voor de ontwikkeling van de moderne architectuur. Description
Designed by P.J. Elling in 1929 according to the principles of the Nieuwe Bouwen, a completely detached DWELLING HOUSE WITH GARAGE. It contains two storeys and is composed of cubic building volumes, on an L-shaped ground plan, with a longer and taller section on the S.W. side, which is provided all around with a narrow cornice and a somewhat lower, shorter section on the N.E. side, to which the garage is connected via a covered area, which is projected along the oblique boundary lines of the street. The whole is built in brick, with flat whitewashed walls on an unplastered plinth and broken by windows set in slightly recessed positions, whose varying size is based on a fixed unit of measurement, and by canopies above the entrance on the N. side and above the terrace on the W. side, as well as the built-out balcony on the upper storey on the S. side. The windows are set in narrow steel frames with vertical glazing bars and are arranged harmoniously – without symmetry – over the facades, sometimes coupled and sometimes placed independently.
To the left of the entrance, over virtually the full height of the N. facade, there is an elongated window for lighting the stairwell. Directly adjoining this is the lower N.E. block, whose roof terrace is surrounded by a steel tube railing which continues along the external staircase connecting the balcony on the S. side. As on the W. side, there is also a terrace on the E. side accessible by large garden doors; only on the W. side is this terrace surrounded by a low whitewashed parapet, and covered by a canopy, above which a horizontal window strip is provided. The low garage is designed in comparable manner. Dwelling house, owing to its overall architectural and technical design (both exterior and interior) and situation, is a representative example of the Dutch contribution to the Nieuwe Bouwen from the period 1920-40 of general interest due to its significance for the development of modern architecture.
