Inleiding.
Herenhuis uit 1902, gebouwd in opdracht van de bouwmaatschappij Statenplein. Het pand vormt onderdeel van een reeks aaneengesloten herenhuizen in een keer ontworpen in neo-renaissance door architect N. Molenaar.
Omschrijving
Herenhuis op samengestelde plattegrond, bestaande uit begane grond en eerste verdieping onder een samengestelde kap. De architectuur wordt gekenmerkt door een sterk verspringende rooilijn, bouwblokken van verschillende hoogten die ten opzichte van elkaar verspringen en een afwisseling van kappen met hoge dakvormen, beëindigd door pirons. In de rode bakstenen gevels is ter accentuering van neggen, strekken, bogen en sierbanden witte kalksteen toegepast. In de gevel bevinden zich diverse venstervormen, balkons met gemetselde boogvormige balkonhekken en een overhoeks geplaatste erker op de verdieping. De erker heeft een gebeeldhouwd hardstenen basement met de tekst "Arbeid is genot". De hoge dakkapel links doorsnijdt aan de onderzijde de gootlijst. Net onder het balkon op de eerste verdieping is een ingemetselde gevelsteen met runderkop, wapen en jaartal 1902 te zien. Op de hoek is een hardstenen leeuw met wapenschild geplaatst. De lage bakstenen muur die de scheiding vormt tussen straat en tuin is in later tijd vernieuwd.
Waardering.
Herenhuis van architectuurhistorisch belang als markant voorbeeld van een woonhuis van rond 1900, gebouwd in neo-renaissance stijl. Hoofdvorm, detaillering en toegepast materiaal zijn gaaf bewaard. Als onderdeel van de reeks aaneengesloten herenhuizen, gebouwd in een ontwerp, heeft het pand ensemblewaarde en vanwege de ligging op de hoek Statenlaan en Statenplein stedenbouwkundige waarde.

Townhouse on a composite plan, consisting of ground floor and first floor under a composite roof truss structure. The architecture is characterised by a strongly recessed building line, building blocks of different heights that are offset with respect to each other and an alternation of roofs with high roof forms, terminated by finials. In the red brick facades white limestone is applied to accentuate arches, bands, arches and decorative borders. In the facade there are various window forms, balconies with mortared arch-shaped balcony railings and a diagonally placed bay on the first floor. The bay has a sculptured sandstone basement with the text "Arbeid is genot" [Labour is pleasure]. The tall roof dormer on the left intersects the gutter line at its base. Just below the balcony on the first floor an embedded facade stone with ox head, coat of arms and date 1902 can be seen. At the corner a sandstone lion with coat of arms shield is placed. The low brick wall that forms the boundary between street and garden was renewed at a later time.

Townhouse of architectural historical significance as a striking example of a residential building from around 1900, built in neo-Renaissance style.
