Inleiding.
Winkel-woonhuis in Art Nouveau uit 1905 gebouwd in opdracht van de kunsthandel Goupil. Het pand, dat is opgenomen in de straatwand met aaneengesloten bebouwing, is ontworpen door de architect L. Simons. De naam van de architect en het jaartal 1905 zijn aan de onderzijde van de rechter penant van de voorgevel ingehakt.
Omschrijving.
Pand op rechthoekige plattegrond bestaande uit parterre en twee verdiepingen onder een met leien gedekt zadeldak met de nok evenwijdig aan de rooilijn langs de voorzijde. De rijke met natuursteen beklede voorgevel is vier vensterassen breed en wordt bekroond door een forse, eveneens in natuursteen uitgevoerde open balustrade. De rechteras bevat de enigszins uitstekende ingangspartij met balustrade boven de eerste verdieping. Rondom de vensters en in het fries bevinden zich rijke Art Nouveau decoraties met naturalistische bladmotieven. Op de verdiepingen zijn houten schuifvensters. De brede houten pui in het portiek van de ingangstravee bezit bovenlichten met kleine roedeverdeling. De houten paneeldeur rechts in deze ingangspui heeft gietijzeren sierroosters. Winkelpui met gepolijste, granieten zuilen waartussen de etalagevensters met bovenlichten voorzien van een kleine roedenverdeling. Boven de pui is een later toegevoegd tegeltableau met het opschrift "H. van Dooren & Cie" en drie wapenschilden van Amsterdam, Den Haag en Utrecht. In het interieur zijn onderdelen uit de bouwtijd bewaard gebleven; onder meer plafondbalken met bewerkte sleutelstukken op de begane grond.
Waardering.
Winkel-woonhuis van architectuurhistorisch belang als waardevol en zeldzaam voorbeeld van Art Nouveau. Hoofdvorm, detaillering en het toegepaste materiaal zijn gaaf.

Building on a rectangular floor plan consisting of ground floor and two storeys under a slate-covered gabled roof with the ridge parallel to the building line at the front. The rich front facade, faced with natural stone, is four window bays wide and is crowned by a substantial open balustrade, also executed in natural stone. The right bay contains the slightly projecting entrance section with balustrade above the first storey. Around the windows and in the frieze there are rich Art Nouveau decorations with naturalistic leaf motifs. On the storeys there are wooden sash windows. The broad wooden shop front in the entrance bay portico has fanlights with small glazing bars. The wooden panelled door on the right in this entrance front has cast-iron ornamental grilles. Above the front is a later-added tile tableau with the inscription "H. van Dooren & Cie" and three coats of arms of Amsterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.
