Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Natuursteen is overvloedig toegepast.

Description
Introduction.
Retail property on the corner of the Kneuterdijk and the Plaats in the style of the "Um Achtzehnhundert Bewegung", built in 1908 according to the design of architects Johan Mutters Jr. and J.J. Gort, originally intended as the Kuhne fashion store. Description.
The property, largely brick-built, covers a rectangular ground plan and comprises eight bays on the Kneuterdijk and three bays on the Plaats, while the corner bay with main entrance on the ground floor is rounded. The property has four storeys, of which the uppermost is designed as an attic storey under a hipped roof covered with slates, in which are roof dormers and oeil-de-boeufs. Natural stone is applied extensively. The ground floor with shop windows is rusticated in this material. Furthermore, the corner section and both narrow risalites in the Kneuterdijk facade are clad in natural stone. The window bays are marked by natural stone pilasters with Ionic capitals rising from the ground floor. The pilasters between the windows of the attic storey, decorated with sculpture and mask heads, and the pilasters marking the corners of the facades bear ornamental vases. Below the windows of the second floor and in the attic above the rounded corner is festoon work in neo-Louis XVI style. The left risalite in the facade on the Kneuterdijk continues in the attic storey as a natural stone roof dormer with curved pediment and ornamental vases. The windows possess a cross-form layout with casement windows and small glazing bars. Wrought-iron window grilles in neo-Louis XVI style are placed in front of the windows of the first floor. In front of the windows on this floor at the corner runs a balcony with balcony railing, supported by sculptured scroll consoles. Evaluation.
The property is architecturally valuable as one of the earliest examples in the Netherlands of the "Um Achtzehnhundert Bewegung". Also significant within the development of the oeuvre of architect Mutters. Main form, detailing and the applied material are intact. An added value is derived from the property's striking urban planning situation on the corner of the Plaats and the Kneuterdijk.
