Inleiding
Markant aan de Torenstraat gesitueerde voormalige FABRIEK voor regenkleding, getuige de in een cartouche gevatte jaartalstenen in de geveltop gebouwd in 1897 in eclectisch- renaissancistische trant en behorende bij het eveneens beschermde dubbele winkelwoonhuis Blijhamsterstraat 11, dat eveneens uit 1897 dateert en dezelfde vormgeving vertoont (zie de afzonderlijke omschrijving). Beide gebouwen zijn door middel van een bijpassend tussenlid met elkaar verbonden. Te linkerzijde van het fabrieksgebouw lag oorspronkelijk de door een muur omsloten tuin.
Omschrijving
Diep twee bouwlagen tellend voormalig fabrieksgebouw, opgetrokken uit vrij gladde oranjerode Groninger strengperssteen en gedekt door een met gesmoorde machinale platte Friese pannen belegd zadeldak tussen rechte puntgevels met oorspronkelijk aan beide zijden, maar thans alleen nog aan de achterzijde, een trijshuisje; geprofileerde gootlijst op gestucadoorde consoles; staafankers. De voorgevel is, in de trant van Blijhamsterstraat 11 verlevendigd door gestucadoorde bakstenen pilasters met fantasiekapiteel van gegoten cement, gestucadoorde geprofileerde waterlijsten en licht afgewerkte banden; de indeling van begane grond en verdieping is niet meer oorspronkelijk, die van de geveltoppen met halfrond gesloten vensters met gietijzeren indeling, rond venster en blindnis wel; het trijshuis ontbreekt. De zijgevels zijn regelmatig ingedeeld door bakstenen pilasters en getoogde vensters met gietijzeren indeling en klapraam worden verlevendigd door de toepassing van banden in gele baksteen en siermetselwerk; de indeling van de achtergevel vertoont overeenkomsten met de voorgevel, doch heeft nog de oorspronkelijke zesruitsschuiframen met eensteens hanekam en sierblokken, opgeklampt hijsluik en houten trijshuisje. Het INTERIEUR bestaat uit nagenoeg ongedeelde ruimten die worden ondersteund door eenvoudig geprofileerde dunne gietijzeren kolommen; op de zolder bevindt zich nog de hijsinstallatie.

Introduction
Remarkable factory for rainwear situated on Torenstraat, evidenced by the date stones set in a cartouche in the gable top built in 1897 in eclectic-Renaissancesque style and belonging to the likewise protected double shop-dwelling house Blijhamsterstraat 11, which also dates from 1897 and displays the same design (see the separate description). Both buildings are connected to each other by means of a matching intermediate section. To the left side of the factory building was originally a garden enclosed by a wall.
Description
Deep two-storey former factory building, constructed of fairly smooth orange-red Groningen pressed brick and covered by a gabled roof lined with suppressed machine-made flat Frisian tiles between straight pointed gables with originally on both sides, but now only on the rear side, a roof-light; profiled gutter cornice on stuccoed consoles; wall anchors. The front facade is, in the manner of Blijhamsterstraat 11, enlivened by stuccoed brick pilasters with fantasy capital of cast cement, stuccoed profiled drip mouldings and lightly worked bands; the layout of ground floor and upper storey is no longer original, but that of the gable tops with semicircular enclosed windows with cast-iron glazing, circular window and blind well it is; the roof-light is missing. The side facades are regularly laid out by brick pilasters and arched windows with cast-iron glazing and sash windows are enlivened by the application of bands in yellow brick and ornamental brickwork; the layout of the rear facade shows similarities with the front facade, but still has the original six-pane sash windows with one-brick rooster comb and ornamental blocks, clamped hoist window and wooden roof-light. The INTERIOR consists of virtually undivided spaces that are supported by simply profiled thin cast-iron columns; on the attic is still the hoist installation.
