Kamerwoning onder zadeldak evenwijdig aan de rooilijn, deel uitmakend van de Kameren van Jan van Campen; kamer nr. 8.
De niet onderkelderde kamerwoning heeft een lijstgevel met rechts een deur met bovenlicht met roedeverdeling en links een 18e eeuws schuifvenster met roedeverdeling en luiken. Aan de achterzijde heeft het pand een lijstgevel met links een deur en rechts een schuifvenster met roedeverdeling.
De beganegrond heeft een samengestelde balklaag met een moerbalk loodrecht op de rooilijn. Een tussenmuur verdeeld de ruimte in de diepte in tweeën.
De trap naar de zolder bevindt zich links vooraan. Tegen de achtermuur van het tuintje heeft het pand een buitenplee, de rechter van een blok van twee (mede in gebruik door de bewoners van Schalkwijkstraat 22, dat zelf geen plee heeft.

Description
Room dwelling under a gabled roof parallel to the building line, forming part of the Rooms of Jan van Campen; room no. 8.
The uncellarad room dwelling has a cornice-topped facade with on the right a door with fanlight with glazing bars and on the left an 18th-century sash window with glazing bars and shutters. On the rear side the building has a cornice-topped facade with on the left a door and on the right a sash window with glazing bars.
The ground floor has a composite beam layer with a girder beam perpendicular to the building line. An intermediate wall divides the space in depth into two parts.
The staircase to the attic is located on the left at the front. Against the rear wall of the garden the building has an external privy, the right one of a pair (also used by the inhabitants of Schalkwijkstraat 22, which has no privy of its own).
In 1574 Jan van Campen bequeathed his house (east of the later Nieuwe Kamp) with 13 rooms to the then still young Leeuwenberg almshouse situated on the opposite side of the street. The almshouse managed the complex as rent-free dwellings. Of these, Schalkwijkstraat 6 - 22 (even numbers) remain, with number 10 missing, and Nieuwe Kamp 17. Schalkwijkstraat 18, 20 and 22 are somewhat lower than the western part of the row.
