Omschrijving
V.m. R.K.Kerk op de hoek van de Nieuwstraat en de Rozemarijnstraat. Gebouw met neoclassicistische gevel, gebouwd in 1848 door Theo Molkenboer. Na voltooiing van de neogotische St. Michaelskerk in 1892 diende de v.m. kerk aan de Nieuwstraat als gebouw van de R.K.Werkliedenvereniging St. Joseph, welke functie het tot 1926 behield, waarna het een bestemming als opslagruimte verkreeg. In baksteen uitgevoerde voorgevel met als pleisterbossage behandelde hoekkettingen. De hoofdingang heeft een omlijsting van gekoppelde Toscaanse zuilen van natuursteen, die een hoofdgestel met houten fronton dragen, bekroond door een heiligenbeeld. Links en rechts zijportalen in eenvoudige, rechthoekige omlijstingen. De vrijstaande gevel aan de Rozemarijnstraat is sober behandeld en heeft in de verdieping grote rondboogvensters. De driezijdig gesloten lagere apsis aan de Bitterstraat is in neoromaanse trant gedetailleerd en wellicht een latere toevoeging. Klokkenstoel met gelui van drie klokken, waarvan een van Petit en Fritsen, 19de eeuw, diam. 91,8 cm., een van Mabilon (Th. Description
Former R.C. Church at the corner of the Nieuwstraat and the Rozemarijnstraat. Building with neoclassical facade, built in 1848 by Theo Molkenboer. After completion of the neo-Gothic St. Michaelskerk in 1892 the former church on the Nieuwstraat served as building of the R.C. Working Men's Association St. Joseph, which function it retained until 1926, after which it was converted to storage space. Front facade executed in brick with corner chains treated as rendered bossage. The main entrance has a surround of coupled Tuscan columns of natural stone, which carry a main entablature with wooden pediment, crowned by a statue of a saint. Left and right side portals in simple, rectangular surrounds. The detached facade on the Rozemarijnstraat is soberly treated and has on the storey large round-arched windows. The three-sided closed lower apse on the Bitterstraat is detailed in neo-Romanesque manner and possibly a later addition. Bell tower with bell installation of three bells, of which one by Petit en Fritsen, 19th century, diam. 91.8 cm., one by Mabilon (Th.
