Poortgebouw met woningen en winkels, Meidoornstraat 1-3; 4-6.
Symmetrisch opgezet poortgebouw, in oorsprong bestemd voor twee eengezinswoningen en twee winkelwoningen, met kapverdieping onder samenstel van zadel- en schilddaken, waarbij de centrale dwarskap zich verheft boven de kappen van de naar voren uitgebouwde, van puntgevels en steunberen voorziene winkelwoningen en de schilddaken van de teruggerooide zijgevels lager zijn doorgetrokken. Alle kappen hebben omlopende goten met lichtoverstek; aan de achterzijde worden de kappen doorbroken door twee langgerekte dakkapelreeksen te weerszijden van de tuitgevel boven de poort.
De feitelijke poort-doorgang is vlak gedekt en wordt aan weerszijden gemarkeerd door een halfrond gemetselde boog met uitkragende rollagen van koppen en strekken; aansluitend aan de achterzijde twee haaks op elkaar gemetselde bloembakken en in de poort de toegangen naar de twee middenwoningen. Aan de straatzijde zijn lage, door drie donker gekleurde banden afgewisselde, tuinmuren aangebracht, begrensd door korte dwarsmuren met vertandingen, aansluitend bij de ingangsportieken van de winkels die zich verder onderscheiden door de grote, rechthoekige etalageruiten. Tegenover nr. 1 en de poort een laag trapje, bij nr. 4 aan twee zijden een laag trapje met gemetselde terrasmuurtjes in verband met het plaatselijk niveauverschil.
Woningreeks met winkels en poort, deel uitmakend van het complex met monumentnummer 407231 en als zodanig van belang.
N.B. De bij de rechterhoekwoning (Meidoornstraat 4) naderhand aangebouwde garage valt buiten de bescherming.

Description
Gateway building with dwellings and shops, Meidoornstraat 1-3; 4-6.
Symmetrically arranged gateway building, originally intended for two single-family dwellings and two shop dwellings, with an attic storey under an ensemble of gabled and hipped roofs, whereby the central transverse roof ridge rises above the roofs of the projecting shop dwellings equipped with pointed gables and buttresses, and the hipped roofs of the set-back side facades are carried through at a lower level. All roofs have continuous gutters with light overhang; on the rear side the roofs are pierced by two elongated dormer rows on either side of the spout gable above the gateway.
The actual gateway passage is flat-roofed and is marked on either side by a semicircular arched bond with cantilevered bed courses of headers and stretchers; adjoining the rear side two planter boxes laid perpendicular to each other and in the gateway the entrances to the two middle dwellings. On the street side low garden walls are provided, interrupted by three bands of dark-coloured material, bounded by short transverse walls with dovetails, adjoining the entrance porticos of the shops which are further distinguished by large rectangular shop windows. Opposite no. 1 and the gateway a low staircase, at no. 4 on two sides a low staircase with brick terrace walls in relation to the local level difference.
