Omschrijving
TUINKOEPEL.

Description
GARDEN PAVILION. Eight-sided (alternating four wide and four narrow sides) underground wooden pavilion from circa 1750 on brick foundation, extended to eight roof ridges, covered with lead, with tentage roof, with pilasters with block motif running around at the corners. The top is finished with a cornice with cyma moulding. At the height of the pilasters the cornice projects slightly forward. Entrance section, for which a hardstone landing and staircase of 3 steps (originally provided with a handrail), situated on the wide side facing southwest, consisting of a double door surrounded by moulding and crowned with rocaille ornament (a copy applied in the 1950s by Mrs. Sondaar-Dobbelman) with 4-pane window. For the window placed above it a blind glazed window (a copy applied in the 1950s by Mrs. Sondaar-Dobbelman). The glazed window, which is slightly arched at the top, is provided with rich carved work of scroll-shaped curls in Louis XV style. The remaining wide sides of the pavilion are provided with a sash window with 12-pane glazing. The narrow sides of the pavilion are provided with a sash window with 8-pane glazing. The window of the pavilion facing southeast in a wide side is blinded from the inside by shutters. These shutters were applied at the beginning of the 1970s. Originally the parts of the sash windows above the alternating mullions were blind. These parts were replaced during restoration at the beginning of the 1970s by the current fanlights. The pavilion was restored in 1957. In a print of the pavilion by P.J. Lutgers from 1836 (Views along the river Vecht) the pavilion is depicted with a balustrade above the cornice, an element whose presence could not be confirmed by tradition. From a stylistic point of view, the presence of this balustrade would have been quite possible. Interior: on the inside the pavilion is covered with a wooden wainscoting of simple panelwork.
