The register's description

HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT. The historical garden and park layout of Oud Over has occupied the same elongated ground area between the Vecht and the public road (Oud Over) for about 250 years. Around 1800 winding copses were already present at Oud Over (see advertisement Oprechte Haerlemsche Courant, 1804). Of these copses some old beeches and oaks on the SW side of the park layout may have been preserved. These oaks and beeches together with various shrubs and conifers form a secluded section, which in an undulating line determines the boundary on the south and SW side of the lawn, which borders the SW side of the main building. This lawn together with the fore-court in front of the main building belongs to the open spaces of the landscape-style layout at Oud Over, which was presumably realized in the course of the 19th century and which was partially altered by various plantings from 1920 by the then owner C. Matthijsen. Several winding paths on the SW side of the grounds probably date from the 19th century. The open space situated on the SW side of the house consists of an eye-shaped lawn, which in its design is a greatly enlarged flat projection of the eye-shaped profile of the fanlight of the entrance composition of the main building situated perpendicular to it. It is not entirely clear whether the eye-shaped lawn was laid out in the 19th century or in the 1920s. In front of the main building on the fore-court stand two lime trees, which were presumably planted at the time of the construction of the main building, if they do not belong to an earlier phase of the layout of Oud Over. The fore-court is reached via the drive, the beginning of its winding course marked by a 19th-century entrance gate. Drive and fore-court are surrounded by evergreen shrubs (including Rhododendrons) and trees (conifers), which were presumably planted from the 1920s onward by the then owner C. Matthijsen. The second drive of Oud Over, which lies more to the north-east, also has a winding course and presumably dates, like the first-mentioned drive, from the landscape-style layout realized in the course of the 19th century. The arbour of apple and pear trees to the north-east of the house probably also dates from this phase of the layout, if it was not planted in the 1920s. The layout of a lawn with small pond in landscape style, which is partly surrounded by this arbour, has been laid out or altered more recently and is of subordinate significance for the historical garden and park layout of Oud Over. As such, the layout of Oud Over forms a concise and intimate landscape-style layout, which as a type could be found in the 19th century on more Vecht country estates, but which has become relatively rare nowadays.
