Omschrijving
N.H. KERK. Gotische kerk, bestaande uit een driebeukig schip, een dwarspand, een rechtgesloten koor en aan de westzijde van het noorderdwarspand een kapel. Na zware oorlogsschade in 1949-'53 gerestaureerd, alleen de toren in moderne vormen herbouwd. Het schip in zijn huidige pseudobasilicale gedaante uit omstreeks 1400, toen ook het 14e eeuwse koor verhoogd werd. Laag transept uit de tweede helft van de 14e eeuw in 1541 hoger opgetrokken en aan het noordtransept de Joriskapel aangebouwd. Inwendig zuilen met bladkapitelen, en houten tongewelven. Natuurstenen grafmonument voor Jean de Ligne, heer van Zevenbergen, graaf van Aremberg (gesneuveld in de slag bij Heiligerlee in 1568); door Lambrecht de Lambillon te Namen; tombe in een nis, overhuifd door een rondboog. Op elk der boogstenen een wapen aan de voorzijde en een aan de dagkant; tegen de achterwand van de nis een opschrift in omlijsting en een alliantiewapen. 17e eeuws eiken doophek thans onder de orgelgalerij; eiken preekstoel met klankbord uit 1785. Description
N.H. CHURCH. Gothic church, consisting of a three-aisle nave, a transept, a straight-closed choir and on the west side of the north transept a chapel. After severe war damage, restored in 1949-'53, with only the tower rebuilt in modern forms. The nave in its current pseudo-basilical form dates from around 1400, when the 14th-century choir was also heightened. Low transept from the second half of the 14th century, raised higher in 1541 and the Joriskapel built onto the north transept. Interior with columns with leaf capitals, and wooden barrel vaults. Natural stone monument for Jean de Ligne, lord of Zevenbergen, count of Aremberg (killed in the battle of Heiligerlee in 1568); by Lambrecht de Lambillon of Namen; tomb in a niche, roofed by a round arch. On each of the arch stones a coat of arms on the front and one on the visible edge; against the rear wall of the niche an inscription in a frame and an alliance coat of arms. 17th-century oak baptism fence now under the organ gallery; oak pulpit with sounding board from 1785. Entrance at the Markt formed by an iron gate between two sandstone pillars from around 1735. Bell cote with bell by P. de Dorme, 1410, diam. 107 cm.
