Omschrijving
R.K. kerk (St. Martinus). In oorsprong de moederkerk van Zevenaar, reeds vermeld in 1276. Schilderachtig gelegen temidden van enige boerderijen en huizen terzijde van de bandijk. Schip, toren, noorderzijbeuk en driezijdig gesloten koor, XV B, ingrijpend hersteld na oorlogsverwoesting van 1572 en in XIX B. In oorsprong pseudobasiliek. Zuidbeuk in XVI A vervangen door grotere "Mariakerk", op de grondslagen waarvan in 1909 een neogotische zijbeuk verrees. Het schip is aan de noordzijde in 1863 in basilicale vorm gewijzigd. Gewelven, met uitzondering van dat over de noorderbeuk, neogotisch. Strakke Nederrijnse toren met ingesnoerde spits. Inventaris: koperen doopvont (1650); barok altaar met getorste kolommen (1664); neogotisch altaar, waarin opgenomen albasten groep voorstellend de Nood Gods (XV B), houten St. Barbara (XV D) en houten St. Elisabeth (XVI A). Tegen één der torenpijlers een laatgotische zerk (XVI A). Tweeklaviers orgel, in 1890 gemaakt door L. Schwarze met gebruikmaking van ouder materiaal. Restant mechanisch smeedijzeren torenuurwerk, 1746.

R.C. church (St. Martinus). Originally the mother church of Zevenaar, already mentioned in 1276. Picturesquely situated amid a few farmhouses and houses beside the flood dyke. Nave, tower, north aisle and three-sided closed choir, 15th century B, extensively restored after war destruction of 1572 and in 19th century B. Originally pseudo-basilica. South aisle in 16th century A replaced by larger "Maria church", on the foundations of which in 1909 a Neo-Gothic side aisle was erected. The nave was altered to basilica form on the north side in 1863. Vaults, with the exception of that over the north aisle, Neo-Gothic. Austere Lower Rhine tower with inset spire. Inventory: copper font (1650); Baroque altar with twisted columns (1664); Neo-Gothic altar, in which incorporated an alabaster group representing the distress of God (15th century B), wooden St. Barbara (15th century D) and wooden St. Elisabeth (16th century A). Against one of the tower piers a Late Gothic grave slab (16th century A). Two-manual organ, made in 1890 by L. Schwarze using older material. Remnant of mechanical wrought-iron tower clock mechanism, 1746.
