Omschrijving
HUIS van Maarten van Rossum. Omstreeks 1535 gebouwd poortgebouw voor een stadspaleis, dat nimmer is uitgevoerd. Bouwwerk op rechthoekige plattegrond met verdieping en zadeldak tussen traptorens. Op de hoeken ronde arkeltorens met slanke spitsen. Aan de achterzijde een uitbouw met twee trapgevels en een traptoren met ui-vormige spits. De lagere begane-grond wordt van de hogere verdieping gescheiden door een natuurstenen waterlijst. Toegangspoort met kielboogvormige, geprofileerde en geblokte bakstenen omlijsting, geflankeerd door rijk versierde natuurstenen kandelaberzuilen. Vensters met natuurstenen kruiskozijnen en halve kruiskozijnen, bekroond door boogtrommels, waarin reliëfs. De voorgevel wordt afgesloten door een weergang met kantelen. Sierankers. In het kalf van de toegangsdeur in de poort staat gesneden: anno 1613. Alle sculptuur in vroege renaissance-vormen. Het gebouw is in 1885 ingrijpend gerestaureerd door P.J.H. Cuypers. Inwendig: gang en vertrekken met kruisribgewelven, in een der kamers op gebeeldhouwde kraagstenen. Drie renaissance-schouwen, waarvan een, met hermen, die Adam en Eva voorstellen, dateert uit het laatste kwart der 16e eeuw en de beide andere uit de bouwtijd van het huis.

Description
HOUSE of Maarten van Rossum. Gateway building erected around 1535 for a city palace, which was never executed. Structure on rectangular plan with storey and gabled roof between corner towers. At the corners round corner towers with slender spires. On the rear side an extension with two stepped gables and a corner tower with onion-shaped spire. The lower ground floor is separated from the upper storey by a natural stone drip moulding. Access portal with keel-arch, moulded and rusticated brick frame, flanked by richly decorated natural stone candelabra pilasters. Windows with natural stone cross windows and half cross windows, crowned by arch drums, in which reliefs. The front facade is closed by a parapet with crenellations. Ornamental wall anchors. In the panel of the access door in the gate is carved: anno 1613. All sculpture in early Renaissance forms. The building was extensively restored in 1885 by P.J.H. Cuypers. Internally: passage and rooms with ribbed barrel vaults, in one of the rooms on carved corbels. Three Renaissance fireplaces, of which one, with terms, depicting Adam and Eve, dates from the last quarter of the 16th century and the other two from the time of construction of the building.
