Omschrijving
Raadhuis. Gebouwd in 1620. Rechthoekig gebouw zonder verdieping, gedekt door een met leien bekleed zadeldak tussen zij-trapgevels met een toren tegen de korte gevel aan de Voorstraat, en een in- en uitgezwenkte topgevel boven de ingang in het front. Opgetrokken van baksteen met toepassing van natuursteen voor vensterkozijnen, hoekblokken, banden en omlijstingen. In de top een nis met Justitiabeeld. Houten goten op klossen. Dakkapellen met loden topversieringen in de gedaante van gekroonde adelaars. Tegen de korte gevel aan de Voorstraat een toren, die te halver hoogte van vierkant in een achtkant overgaat en bekroond wordt door een korte met leien gedekte spits die sedert 1793 de oorspronkelijke koepelvormige spits vervangt; als windvaan een meerman. In de benedenruimte van de toren een loge, een roepstoel, overkluisd door een bakstenen stergewelf. Onder het gebouw kelders met tongewelven en zware ronde pijlers. Boven de ingang in zandsteen het wapen van Prins Maurits, geflankeerd door de wapens van de markies van Bergen op Zoom (Glymes) en van Willemstad. Misschien is het gebouw ontworpen door Melchior van Herbach. Gerestaureerd in 1937-'38.

Description
Town Hall. Built in 1620. Rectangular building without upper storey, covered by a slate-clad gabled roof between stepped side gables with a tower against the short facade on the Voorstraat, and an inswung and outswung shaped gable above the entrance in the front. Built of brick with use of natural stone for window frames, corner blocks, bands and mouldings. In the top a niche with an image of Justice. Wooden gutters on corbels. Roof dormers with lead ornamental tops in the shape of crowned eagles. Against the short facade on the Voorstraat a tower, which changes from square to octagonal at half height and is crowned by a short slate-covered spire which since 1793 has replaced the original dome-shaped spire; a merman serving as weathervane. In the lower space of the tower a gallery, a preacher's pulpit, covered by a brick star vault. Beneath the building cellars with barrel vaults and heavy round pillars. Above the entrance in sandstone the coat of arms of Prince Maurits, flanked by the coats of arms of the Marquis of Bergen op Zoom (Glymes) and of Willemstad. The building may have been designed by Melchior van Herbach. Restored in 1937-'38.
