Omschrijving
In 1936 door de architecten B.J. Meerman en J. van der Pijll ontworpen benzinestation met garagebedrijf en woning, die de kenmerken vertonen van de Nieuwe Zakelijkheid uit de periode 1920-1940.
Twaalfzijdige glazen kiosk met 10-ruiters op borstwering onder ver uitstekende, vrijwel horizontale en bijna cirkelvormige luifel; in het midden de toegangsdeuren van de kiosk. Kiosk en luifel zijn geplaatst op de hoek van een vierkant bouwblok, dat tweemaal zo hoog is als de kiosk; links naast de kiosk een kantoor met drie smalle staande vensters en een groot liggend venster; in het verlengde van het blok links een iets uitspringende jongere garage met acht deuren; in de sprong tussen de voorgevel van het kantoor en die van de garage een deur met bovenlicht.
Op de hoek boven de luifel een cilindervormige hoekverzwaring als console voor een vlaggemast. Op het platte dak is overhoeks geplaatst een verticale glazen lichtbak met koperen naald.
De dakrand van de aan de straat gelegen gevels is het hoogst boven de hoek met luifel; de beide zijden zijn met een sprong lager voortgezet (voorheen waren op die lagere delen de merknamen Texaco resp. Caltex aangebracht).
De gevel van het bouwblok is rechts verlengd tot kopgevel van het daarachter gelegen woonhuis; toegang tot de woning geeft een vlakke deur rechts in de klopgevel; links ernaast twee kleine ronde lichtopeningen met een kruisroede, en rechts ernaast een groot rechthoekige 12-ruits venster met aan de bovenzijde glas-in-lood.
De woning kent twee bouwlagen en drie venstertraveeen in de zijgevel; daarin twee stolpramen met bovenlicht en een deur op de b.g., alsmede twee stolpramen met bovenlicht en een drielicht op de verdieping; tegen de achtergevel een lage aanbouw.
De in witte-stuc-op baksteen uitgevoerde gevels van de kiosk, kantoor en garageruimte zijn voorzien van een rood geschilderde plint; alle vensters en deuren van de kiosk, kantoor- en garageruimte bezitten stalen kozijnen en roeden - uitgezonderd de acht garagedeuren - en zijn blauw geschilderd. De vensters en deuren van de woning in de zijgevel zijn, net als de garagedeuren in hout uitgevoerd.
Het benzinestation met luifel en lichttoren bezit grote architectonische kwaliteit doordat de strakke vormgeving van de rechthoeken is gecombineerd met de cirkels van de kiosk, luifel, kleine vensters en ronde console van de vlaggemast. Het kantoor, de garage en woning zijn op harmonische wijze met het benzinestation verbonden. De afgewogen verhoudingen en detaillering van de vlakken en volumes maken het geheel tot een belangrijk voorbeeld van de Nieuwe Zakelijkheid. Qua vormgeving is het benzinestation bovendien een hoogtepunt in de ontwikkeling van benzine-verkooppunten.

Description
Petrol station with garage business and dwelling, designed in 1936 by architects B.J. Meerman and J. van der Pijll, exhibiting characteristics of the Nieuwe Zakelijkheid from the period 1920-1940.
Twelve-sided glass kiosk with 10-paned windows on breast wall under a far-projecting, almost horizontal and nearly circular canopy; in the middle the entrance doors of the kiosk. Kiosk and canopy are placed on the corner of a square building block which is twice as high as the kiosk; to the left of the kiosk an office with three narrow vertical windows and one large horizontal window; in line with the block on the left a slightly projecting newer garage with eight doors; in the recess between the front facade of the office and that of the garage a door with fanlight.
On the corner above the canopy a cylindrical corner reinforcement as a console for a flagpole. On the flat roof a vertical glass light-tower is placed diagonally with a copper needle.
The roof edge of the facades facing the street is highest above the corner with canopy; both sides are stepped down lower (previously the brand names Texaco and Caltex respectively were displayed on these lower parts).
The facade of the building block is extended on the right to the gable end of the dwelling house behind it; access to the dwelling is provided by a flat door on the right in the gable end; to the left of it two small round light openings with a crossbar, and to the right of it a large rectangular 12-paned window with glass-in-lead at the top.
The dwelling has two storeys and three window bays in the side facade; in it two sash windows with fanlights and a door on the ground floor, as well as two sash windows with fanlights and a three-light window on the upper storey; against the rear facade a low extension.
The facades of the kiosk, office and garage space executed in white stucco-on-brick are provided with a red painted plinth; all windows and doors of the kiosk, office and garage space have steel frames and glazing bars - except the eight garage doors - and are painted blue. The windows and doors of the dwelling in the side facade are executed in wood, as are the garage doors.
The petrol station with canopy and light tower possesses great architectural quality in that the austere design of rectangles is combined with the circles of the kiosk, canopy, small windows and round console of the flagpole. The office, garage and dwelling are connected to the petrol station in a harmonious manner. The carefully balanced proportions and detailing of the planes and volumes make the whole an important example of Nieuwe Zakelijkheid. In terms of design the petrol station is moreover a high point in the development of petrol sales points.
Because of its typological and architectural quality and rarity, the petrol station with office, garage and dwelling is an evident monument of cultural and architectural-historical value.
