In 1855 naar ontwerp van de toenmalige gemeentearchitect G.N. Itz aangelegde dubbele ijzeren OPHAALBRUG - vervaardigd door de Haagse gieterij Enthoven & Co. - ter vervanging van een houten voorganger nabij het Damiatebolwerk over de Wolwevershaven, en genaamd Damiatebrug.
De uit geklonken ijzeren profielen en andere toebehoren samengestelde brug heeft een houten wegdek en houten balkleuningen; op de met natuursteen beklede brughoofden zijn gietijzeren balusterleuningen, met naamplaat, aangebracht. Op de van voluten, vier- en zespasvormen voorziene hameipoorten rusten de smeedijzeren balansen waarvan de windverbanden bij de waterzijde in het midden in een versierde knop samenkomen.

Description
In 1855 according to the design of the then municipal architect G.N. Itz constructed double iron BASCULE BRIDGE - manufactured by the Hague foundry Enthoven & Co. - to replace a wooden predecessor near the Damiatebolwerk over the Wolwevershaven, and named Damiatebrug.
The bridge assembled from riveted iron sections and other components has a wooden roadway and wooden handrails; on the abutments faced with natural stone, cast iron baluster railings with nameplate are fitted. On the hamei gates provided with volutes, four- and six-lobe forms rest the wrought iron counterweights, the wind braces of which on the waterside meet in the centre in a decorated knob.
Mid-19th-century double cast iron bascule bridge of significance from civil engineering and building history perspective because of type, design and material use, as well as because of its striking silhouette value.
