Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Parsonage situated on the southwestern slope of the terp near the church, deacon houses, sexton's house and Reformed association building. The parsonage consists of four sections: on the north side a stone house with upper storey (around 1300), a staircase tower from 1634, an 18th century middle section and a coach house from 1875.
Description
The medieval stone house has been provided with an upper storey since its construction and is undercellared on the east side and vaulted with barrel vaults. The house is fitted with a hipped roof with two corner chimneys. Besides some medieval and 17th century windows with natural stone lintels and wooden shutters, the stone house now has five eight-pane windows in the hall, twelve six-pane windows in all other rooms and three two-pane windows for the cellars. Interior: chamber (once private chapel until 1594), hall, tiled floors, timber joists of oak from 1482, spiral staircase from 1634, roof truss structure renewed in 1634 with timber from 1465 and 1632, Rococo fireplace on the upper storey from circa 1750. During the last restoration, a large number of building components from the Middle Ages, Gothic, Renaissance and 18th century came to light, such as window and door recesses, candle niches, wall cupboards, lintels, fireplace components etc., being monumental witnesses of different building and development phases.
Against the south facade an extension from 1634, containing the oak spiral staircase with underlying privy. In this building section with gabled roof six original windows are still present. The adjoining 18th century middle section was altered in the 19th century. It now contains the study and the courtyard room. The southernmost part of the parsonage, the coach house contains the kitchen and the former mangles room, coach room and horse and cattle stable. This section was built in 1875 as a replacement for the large farmyard barn of the old weem. A distinctive component of the parsonage is the early 19th century corridor system in the form of a Lotharingian Cross connecting the various sections. Six Empire arches accentuate this component. One of them, above the monumental entrance door is crowned with a tympanum. In 1939 an alteration was carried out under the direction of architect A.R. Wittop Koning. Restorations were undertaken in 1975 and in the periods 1985-1990 and 2000-2005.
Valuation
Former parsonage of general importance due to cultural and architectural-historical value: - as an example of an originally still authentic medieval parsonage with its location on a terp, part of an ecclesiastical group of five monumental buildings, - due to the early stone house in which dozens of historical elements from five stylistic periods are visible, showing an interesting building and development history of seven centuries, - due to typological significance: a (former) Groningen weem is rare.
