Omschrijving
GEVANGENTOREN. Ronde, aan de zeekant opgetrokken poorttoren, daterend uit omstreeks 1491 en oorspronkelijk één van de torens van de in 1811 door de Fransen gesloopte Westpoort. Baksteen in de buitenbekleding, afgewisseld met lagen natuursteen. Vrij ingrijpend gerestaureerd in 1894; zwaar beschadigd in de Tweede Wereldoorlog; omstreeks 1960 opnieuw gerestaureerd, waarbij de top met tentvormige bekapping naar oude tekeningen is teruggebracht en in verband met een nieuwe bestemming enige hardstenen kruisvensters zijn aangebracht. Aan de voet van de toren bevindt zich het Gevangenhuisbolwerk of Bastion XIII, dat deel uitmaakt van de Vlissingse zeeversterkingen (separaat monumentnummer).

Description
PRISON TOWER. Round gate tower, built on the sea side, dating from around 1491 and originally one of the towers of the Westpoort, demolished by the French in 1811. Brick in the outer cladding, alternated with layers of natural stone. Substantially restored in 1894; severely damaged in the Second World War; restored again around 1960, with the top with tent-shaped capping restored according to old drawings and in connection with a new use some hard stone cross windows were installed. At the foot of the tower is the Prison House Bastion or Bastion XIII, which forms part of the Vlissingen sea fortifications (separate monument number).
