Omschrijving
Voormalige Gerard Adriaan van Swieten Tuinbouwschool, thans Klokkenmuseum. Gebouw op rechthoekige plattegrond, in 1884 gesticht als G. A. van Swieten Tuinbouwschool; geopend in 1885. Ontwerp: G.J.Boswinkel, toenmalige opzichter van de gebouwen van de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. Van het gebouw werd in 1888 het voorhuis met een verdieping verhoogd. De serre is een vroeg 20e eeuwse toevoeging. Het gebouw is opgetrokken uit rode baksteen, verlevendigd met lichtgeschilderde geprofileerde natuurstenen lijsten en enig siermetselwerk. Symmetrische indeling door een omlijste centrale dubbele gepaneelde deur met bovenlicht. Te linker en te rechterzijde van de ingang een medaillon met respectievelijk opschrift en wapen. Boven de zesruitsschuifvensters ontlastingsbogen met natuurstenen sluitsteen en siermetselwerk in de spaarvelden. Langs de dakvoet geprofileerde houten gootlijst met tandlijst. Het geheel wordt gedekt door een met ongeglazuurde blauwgrijze kruispannen belegd schilddak waarin dakkapel met wangen, fronton en naald. De uitbouw op het een laag tellende gedeelte is van later datum en niet van belang. Gebouw behorende tot de kolonie-gebouwen van de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. Description
Former Gerard Adriaan van Swieten Horticultural School, now Bell Tower Museum. Building on rectangular plan, founded in 1884 as G. A. van Swieten Horticultural School; opened in 1885. Design: G.J. Boswinkel, then supervisor of the buildings of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. In 1888 the front section of the building was raised by one storey. The conservatory is an early 20th century addition. The building is constructed of red brick, enlivened with light-painted profiled natural stone bands and some decorative brickwork. Symmetrical arrangement by a framed central double panelled door with fanlight. To the left and right of the entrance a medallion with respectively inscription and coat of arms. Above the six-light sash windows relieving arches with natural stone keystone and decorative brickwork in the spandrels. Along the roof edge profiled wooden cornice with dentil moulding. The whole is covered by a hipped roof laid with unglazed blue-grey cross tiles, incorporating a dormer with cheeks, pediment and finial. The extension on the single-storey section is of later date and of no significance. Building belonging to the colony buildings of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid.
