Omschrijving
Wat uiterlijk betreft midden 19e-eeuws aandoend, doch te oordelen naar de bouwsporen via de 18e eeuw te herleiden tot vermoedelijk zelfs de 16e eeuw, onderkelderd verdiepingloos PANDJE op rechthoekige plattegrond, rustend op hardstenen plint met getralied keldervenster en luchtroosters en opgetrokken uit (aan de achterzijde gepleisterde) baksteen en gedekt door twee haaks op het buurpand nr 7 staande met pannen belegde driezijdige schilddaken en een dito parallel aan het buurpand lopend zadeldak tussen de beide schilddaken.
De drie traveeën brede voorgevel is uitgerust met een dubbele opgeklampte deur met hoog liggende gietijzeren luchtroosters en bovenlicht met twee gietijzeren levensboompjes, die is gevat in een aardig geprofileerde houten omlijsting; aan weerszijden daarvan respectievelijk een T-venster, en twee zesruitsschuiframen; 1 1/2-steens strekken; geprofileerde kroon- en gootlijst. In het dakvlak aan straatzijde een koekoek met gesneden wangen en klein geprofileerd driehoekig fronton. De raam- en deurindeling der gepleisterde achterzijde is weinig belangwekkend; aardig is de tweede helft 19e-eeuwse tot voorbij de achterdeur van Gasthuisstraat 7 doorlopende veranda (waarboven balkon), die wordt ondersteund door geprofileerde houten zuiltjes met gesneden standvinken; beganegronds en op het balkon eenvoudige houten hekwerkjes.
Het interieur bevat nog enkele interessante bouwsporen zoals (16e-eeuwse?) lampnissen in de door een tongewelf overgedekte kelder, 18e-eeuwse en latere deuren en geornamenteerde stucplafonds.
Wat betreft de huidige vormgeving midden-19e-eeuws, maar op grond van de aangetroffen bouwsporen ouder (XVIII-XVI) pandje, van belang wegens de eenvoudige maar verzorgde 19e-eeuwse vormgeving en daarmee kenmerkend voor de 19e-eeuwse geschiedenis van Steenwijk, de aanwezige bouwsporen van ouder datum en de aantoonbare 19e-eeuwse relatie (van woonhuis en aangrenzende werkplaats?) met het eveneens beschermde buurpand Gasthuisstraat 7.

Description
As regards its outward appearance seeming mid-19th century, yet to be judged by the building traces to be traced via the 18th century back to presumably even the 16th century, undercellared single-storey COTTAGE on rectangular plan, resting on a hard stone plinth with barred cellar window and air vents and built up from (plastered on the rear) brickwork and covered by two hipped roofs standing at right angles to the neighbouring building no. 7, clad with tiles and a saddle roof running parallel to the neighbouring building between the two hipped roofs.
The three-bay-wide front facade is equipped with a double clamped door with high-set cast-iron air vents and fanlight with two cast-iron tree-of-life motifs, which is set in a nicely moulded wooden frame; on either side thereof respectively a T-window, and two six-light sash windows; 1 1/2-brick courses; moulded cornice and gutter moulding. In the roof plane at street side a cuckoo with carved cheeks and small moulded triangular pediment. The window and door arrangement of the plastered rear side is of little interest; notable is the second half 19th-century veranda (above which balcony) running past the rear door of Gasthuisstraat 7, which is supported by moulded wooden pillars with carved brackets; at ground level and on the balcony simple wooden railings.
The interior still contains several interesting building traces such as (16th-century?) lamp niches in the cellar covered by a barrel vault, 18th-century and later doors and ornamented stucco ceilings.
As regards its current appearance mid-19th century, but on the basis of the building traces encountered older (18th-16th century) cottage, of importance on account of the simple yet carefully finished 19th-century design and therewith characteristic of the 19th-century history of Steenwijk, the present building traces of earlier date and the demonstrable 19th-century relationship (of residence and adjoining workshop?) with the likewise protected neighbouring building Gasthuisstraat 7.
