Description

Complex consisting of four wings around a courtyard, late 19th century. Mariapark, designed by J. Kayser (1891), serving as rest and sojourn for pilgrims, built as a courtyard in dark red brick and glazed brick, vaulted with cross-rib vaults, covered by circumferential slate hipped roof with Rhenish covering, roof dormers. At the street side a portal with broad staircase; above this a corbelled small tower of which the lower storey is executed with blind niches and the upper storey treated open and provided with tracery; facades articulated by buttresses. In the entrance portal five black marble columns, left and right depictions of saints, executed in coloured tiles; terrazzo floor. In the courtyard an altar; against the walls fourteen sandstone stations of the cross in high relief are mounted (workshop Kasteleyn & Kuhnen from Sittard). Columns with stone basement and capitals with floral motifs. In an inner corner of the courtyard stands an open-worked small stair tower with conical spire. The garden facades were glazed at a later stage; stuccoed cornice with floral motifs; two gable lanterns. Stylistically well-preserved historic building with special experiential value and careful detailing, belonging to and originally in function, execution and situation forming part of the pilgrimage church Onze Lieve Vrouw van het Heilig Hart.
