Description

Dutch Reformed Church. Late Gothic village church from the first half of the sixteenth century, consisting of a single-aisle nave with wooden bell turret (1810) and a choir three bays deep, narrower with three-sided closure. West tower demolished in 1810. Windows with brick tracery; wooden barrel vaults with tie beams and corbels, whose supporting stones bear carved coats of arms. Restored 1956-1958. The furnishings include: simple pulpit, seventeenth century, with brass lectern and two candlesticks; baptismal gate with wrought brass baptismal arch, crowned by the village coat of arms; carved choir screen, 17th century, with open panels in the dado rail, balusters and raised central section with pediment; two gallery pews with canopies, containing coats of arms, the finest dated 1662; a gallery pew without canopy, decorated with open panels in the choir, seventeenth century; in the choir closure a richly carved epitaph for W.H. van Steenbergh, 1788; polychrome Ten Commandments board, seventeenth century; a brass candle chandelier, circa 1700; some grave slabs, sixteenth and seventeenth century. Mechanical tower clock, Van Bergen, electric winding. In a buttress of the church a stone sundial is installed.
