Omschrijving
Door E.J. Margry ontworpen en in 1878-1881 gebouwde neogotische KRUISBASILIEK met schoorbogen, onder zadeldak, belegd met leien, in baksteen opgetrokken. Driebeukig schip - na transept vijfbeukig - met monolithe marmeren zuilen - op de kruising bundelpijlers - op granieten basementen, met bladwerkkapitelen. Hoogopgaande middenschip en transept, lage zijbeuken. Verhoogde koorpartij met zevenzijdige absis voor het hoofdaltaar en twee vijfzijdige absiden aansluitend op buitenste zijbeuktraveeen. Gemetselde kruisribgewelven, triforium. In de lengte-as van de kerk een rijkbewerkte toren met frontalen en naaldspits met hoektorentjes, boven de ingang - evenals in de eindgevels van transept - een roosvenster. Aan N.O. zijde van de voorgevel achthoekige doopkapel; aan de N.W. zijde een tweede ingang. Angelustorentje op de kruising; aan Z.W. zijde van transept een traptoren onder tentspits. Zeer rijk behandeld interieur uit de bouwtijd, nagenoeg geheel intact. Veel ornamentale decoratie in schilder- en beeldhouwwerk, veelal met plantaardige motieven vnl. afkomstig uit atelier van Margry & Snickers. Rijk aan beeldhouwwerk - o.a. in koor; engelenfiguren, uitbeeldingen van de geheimen van de rozenkrans (zelfde thema in gebrandschilderde ramen daarboven); in No. zijbeuk voorstellingen uit het leven van H. Antonius; in Z.O. zijbeuk voorstellingen uit het leven van St. Jozef; in N.O. absis H. Liduinaaltaar (zelfde thema in gebrandschilderde ramen daarboven); in Z.O. absis altaar met voorstellingen uit het leven van Christus en uit Oude en Nieuwe Testament (zelfde thema's in gebrandschilderde ramen daarboven, welke afkomstig zijn uit het atelier van Capronnier). Evenzo, daterend uit de bouwtijd, staan verder in de kerk: rijkbewerkt altaar door P. Peeters marmeren communiebanken (thans alleen in transept-armen) rijkbewerkte preekstoel zestien rijkbewerkte kruiswegstaties door P. Peeters apostelbeelden boven de zuilen eikenhouten banken met fraai gesneden kopeinden in middenbeuk marmeren gebeeldhouwd doopvont in doopkapel zangerstribune met orgel boven de ingang. In kruisingtoren klok van Petit en Fritsen, 1880, diam. 61 cm. Grenenhouten klokkenstoel uit de 19de eeuw. Mechanisch Frans torenuurwerk, circa 1900, wordt elektrisch opgewonden.

Description
Neogothic CROSS BASILICA designed by E.J. Margry and built in 1878-1881 with flying buttresses, under gabled roof, covered with slate, constructed in brick. Three-aisle nave - after transept five-aisle - with monolithic marble columns - at the crossing bundle pillars - on granite bases, with foliage capitals. High-rising central nave and transept, low side aisles. Raised choir section with seven-sided apse for the main altar and two five-sided apses adjoining the outer side aisle bays. Mortared cross-ribbed vaults, triforium. Along the longitudinal axis of the church a richly worked tower with frontals and needle spire with corner turrets, above the entrance - as well as in the end gables of the transept - a rose window. On the N.E. side of the front facade octagonal baptistry chapel; on the N.W. side a second entrance. Small bell turret at the crossing; on the S.W. side of the transept a stair turret under spire roof. Very richly treated interior from the construction period, almost entirely intact. Much ornamental decoration in painting and sculpture, mostly with plant motifs derived mainly from the studio of Margry & Snickers. Rich in sculpture - including in the choir; angel figures, depictions of the mysteries of the rosary (same theme in stained glass windows above them); in the N. side aisle depictions from the life of St. Antonius; in the S.E. side aisle depictions from the life of St. Joseph; in the N.E. apse St. Liduina altar (same theme in stained glass windows above them); in the S.E. apse altar with depictions from the life of Christ and from the Old and New Testament (same themes in stained glass windows above them, which come from the studio of Capronnier). Likewise, dating from the construction period, stand further in the church: richly worked altar by P. Peeters marble communion rails (now only in the transept arms) richly worked pulpit sixteen richly worked stations of the cross by P. Peeters apostle statues above the columns oak benches with finely carved arm-ends in the central aisle marble sculptured font in the baptistry chapel singers' tribune with organ above the entrance. In the crossing tower bell by Petit and Fritsen, 1880, diam. 61 cm. Pine-wood bell frame from the 19th century. Mechanical French tower clock, circa 1900, wound electrically.
