Omschrijving
Grote of St. JANSKERK, Ned. Herv. Grote, driebeukige hallenkerk. Hoogkoor en noordelijk zijkoor omstreeks 1400; schip en zuidelijk zijkoor 15e eeuw. Uitwendig zeer sober; inwendig zuilen, waarvan de kapitelen versierd zijn met enkele bladkransen en houten tongewelven. Tegen het zuiderzijkoor een sacristie onder half schilddak tegen puntgevel; inwendig in rococo-vormen verbouwd XVIII. De zijkoren hebben rechte sluitingen en puntgevels; het middenkoor heeft een vijfzijdige absis. De kerk is gerestaureerd van 1946-'49. Inventaris: rijk gesneden orgelkas in renaissance-stijl, midden XVI, vergroot in 1680; preekstoel met "Inkijkens", waarin reliefs omstreeks 1600; weelderig doophek met koperen boog XVII, schepenbank en burgemeestersbank XVIIId.

Description
Great or St. JOHN'S CHURCH, Dutch Reformed. Large, three-aisled hall church. High choir and north side choir circa 1400; nave and south side choir 15th century. Externally very sober; internally columns, of which the capitals are decorated with individual leaf mouldings and wooden barrel vaults. Against the south side choir a sacristy under half hipped roof against pointed gable; internally rebuilt in rococo forms 18th century. The side choirs have straight closings and pointed gables; the central choir has a five-sided apse. The church was restored 1946-'49. Furnishings: richly carved organ case in renaissance style, mid-16th century, enlarged in 1680; pulpit with "Inkijkens", containing reliefs circa 1600; ornate font enclosure with copper arch 17th century, schepenbank and burgemeestersbank 1780s.
