Omschrijving
In oorsprong als voorbeeld van moderne houtskeletbouw in Nieuwe Zakelijke trant door J. Duiker en B. Bijvoet in opdracht van A. Suermondt in 1924 ontworpen, geheel vrijstaand WOONHUIS.
Het is samengesteld uit geometrisch bepaalde bouwvolumes met een maximale bouwhoogte van twee bouwlagen en alle afgedekt door een - telkens tegengesteld geplaatst - lessenaarsdak, in oorsprong geheel opgetrokken in hout met een op een meter modulusschema gebaseerd skelet op een vierkante plattegrond, met beneden aan de W-zijde een serre-uitbouw met aangrenzend ommuurd terras en een in oorsprong bakstenen cilindrisch trappenhuis in het midden en een naar voren uitgebouwd ingangsportaal met ommuurd bordes. De lage ingangspartij bevindt zich aan de O-zijde van de middenas en de dubbelhoge partij aan de W-zijde. De muren worden doorbroken door horizontale soms bij de hoeken omgezette vensterstroken met vertikale roedenverdeling waarbij in oorsprong het formaat was gebaseerd op een vaste maatverhouding; de vensters zijn vooral in de benedenbouw aangebracht, terwijl de bovenbouw voornamelijk aan de Z-zijde en bij de hoeken van vensters is voorzien. Het trappenhuis bezit een langgerekt, smal venster aan de W-zijde en een rechthoekige schoorsteenpartij aan de Z-zijde.
Woonhuis van belang vanwege de architectonische en in oorsprong ook technische vormgeving van met name het exterieur, de plaats binnen het oeuvre van de architecten en de situering - ondanks latere, in strijd met de oorspronkelijke architectuur aangebrachte wijzigingen in materiaalgebruik, kleurstelling en gevelindeling.

Description
Originally designed as an example of modern timber-frame construction in the Nieuwe Zakelijkheid style by J. Duiker and B. Bijvoet on commission of A. Suermondt in 1924, entirely detached DWELLING HOUSE.
It is composed of geometrically defined building volumes with a maximum building height of two storeys and all covered by a half-hipped roof, each positioned in opposite directions, originally entirely constructed in wood with a skeleton based on a one-metre module scheme on a square floor plan, with a conservatory extension on the W side below and an adjacent walled terrace and an originally brick cylindrical stairwell in the centre and a forward-projecting entrance portal with walled platform. The low entrance section is located on the E side of the central axis and the double-height section on the W side. The walls are broken through by horizontal window strips, sometimes reversed at the corners, with vertical glazing bars whereby originally the format was based on a fixed proportional measure; the windows are installed particularly in the ground floor, whilst the upper floor is provided mainly on the S side and at the corners with windows. The stairwell has an elongated, narrow window on the W side and a rectangular chimney section on the S side.
Dwelling house of significance because of the architectural and originally also technical design, in particular of the exterior, the position within the architects' oeuvre and the situation - notwithstanding later alterations made in conflict with the original architecture in material use, colour scheme and facade layout.
