Omschrijving
STADHUIS.
Bakstenen gebouw, verlevendigd door natuurstenen banden, op rechthoekige plattegrond. Gebouwd 1588, zeer ingrijpend vernieuwd in 1887. Rijk behandelde renaissance-trapgevel met wapenstenen, frontons en Justitiabeeld. Gesneden deurkalf, houten kruiskozijn en borden met leeuwen. Op het dak een klokkenkoepeltje met luidklok van Pierre Hemony, 1699.
Inwendig heeft het gebouw over de benedenverdieping halfronde gewelven; voorts oude balkenzolderingen en in de raadszaal balken met sleutelstukken, korbelen en muurstijlen.
In de raadszaal een betimmering, 17e eeuw, alsmede een tafel en een bank, 17e eeuw.
Voorts een wandkast en een 17e eeuwse schouw met natuurstenen hermen. Schoorsteenstuk met voorstelling van Justitia, 17e eeuw. Oude wapens, omstreeks 1575 en een schilderij door D. Stoop; het beleg van Oudewater, 1650. In de hal een oude tegelvloer.
In de burgemeesterskamer een schouw met natuurstenen pilasters en zijwangen, eerste kwart 17e eeuw, haardplaat en tegels.
Voorts een kast en betimmeringen, 17e eeuw.
In de secretariskamer een betimmering, 17e eeuw.

Description
TOWN HALL.
Brick building, enlivened by natural stone bands, on rectangular plan. Built 1588, very substantially renewed in 1887. Richly treated Renaissance stepped gable with armorial stones, pediments and Justice figure. Carved door calf, wooden cross window and boards with lions. On the roof a bell cupola with bell by Pierre Hemony, 1699.
Internally the building has over the ground floor semi-circular vaults; furthermore old beam ceilings and in the council chamber beams with key-stones, corbels and wall posts.
In the council chamber panelling, 17th century, as well as a table and a bench, 17th century.
Furthermore a wall cupboard and a 17th-century fireplace with natural stone herms. Chimneypiece with representation of Justice, 17th century. Old weapons, around 1575 and a painting by D. Stoop; the siege of Oudewater, 1650. In the hall an old tile floor.
In the mayor's chamber a fireplace with natural stone pilasters and side cheeks, first quarter of the 17th century, hearth slab and tiles.
Furthermore a cupboard and panellings, 17th century.
