Omschrijving
Speeltoren. De romp, XVb of XVIa, is zeer waarschijnlijk een overblijfsel van de oudste parochiekerk van Monnickendam. De houten bekroning in Renaissance-stijl dateert uit de jaren 1591,'92, toen de kerk al verdwenen was en de toren reeds deel uitmaakte van een stadhuis. Klokkenstoel met gelui bestaande uit een klok van Thomas Both, 1591, diam. 138,3 cm; een klok van Geert van Wou en Johan Schonenborch, 1513, diam. 95 cm en een klok van Antoni Wilkes, 1663, diam. 35 cm. Mechanisch smeedijzeren uur- en speelwerk vervaardigd door Mr. Roeloff Othszn. te Amsterdam, 1595, voorzien van elektrische opwinding. Klokkenspel, de oudst handbespeelde beiaard ter wereld, bestaande uit 15 klokken van Peter II van den Gheyn, 1595-1597; en 2 klokken van Melchior de Haze ut 1687.

Description
Belfry tower. The body, second half of 15th century or first half of 16th century, is very probably a remnant of the oldest parish church of Monnickendam. The wooden crown in Renaissance style dates from the years 1591, '92, when the church had already disappeared and the tower was already part of a town hall. Bell chamber with bell ringing consisting of a bell by Thomas Both, 1591, diam. 138.3 cm; a bell by Geert van Wou and Johan Schonenborch, 1513, diam. 95 cm and a bell by Antoni Wilkes, 1663, diam. 35 cm. Mechanical wrought-iron hourwork and bell-play mechanism made by Mr. Roeloff Othszn. in Amsterdam, 1595, equipped with electric winding.
