Omschrijving
Gemaal "de Vier Noorder Koggen". Gebouwd in 1869 ter vervanging van enige poldermolens voor de uitwatering van het polderland naar de voormalige Zuiderzee. Het gemaal bestaat uit twee delen: het oude gemaal uit 1869 en links daarvan het nieuwe gemaal uit 1907. Het oude gedeelte bestaat uit een machine- en ketelhuis onder zadeldak met puntgevels, geflankeerd door twee lagere gebouwen voor de wateropvoerwerktuigen (schepraderen en vijzels), beide onder schilddaken. Dit oude gedeelte heeft een versiering met boogfriezen en lisenen. de vensters zijn rondbogig, in het machine- en ketelhuis gekoppeld. In het fundament zijn de poorten voor de wateruitlaat aangebracht. Het gedeelte uit 1907 bestaat uit een blokvormig machinehuis, waarnaast een lager ketelhuis met daarachter staande schoorsteen. Het machinehuis heeft een middenrisaliet, bekroond met kantelen, boogfriezen, getoogde vensters en een rijkelijke toepassing van gekleurde siersteen. Inventaris: vier centrifugaalpompen, geplaatst in 1897 ter vervanging van de oorspronkelijke schepraderen en vijzels, vervaardigd door W.H. Allen Son & Co te Bedford (Engeland). Zij worden aangedreven door twee elektromotoren uit 1940. In het machinehuis van het gedeelte uit 1907 een stoommachine van Backer en Rueb uit 1924 (in 1970 vervangen door een dieselmotor, maar nog intact) en een grote centrifugaalpomp, fabrikaat Louis Smulders uit 1907. In het ketelhuis twee ketels, vervaardigd door de Machinefabriek "Brede" in 1926. Bij het complex behoren een dienstwoning, een smederij-bankwerkerij en een monumentaal sluizencomplex, gedateerd 1893. Belangrijk middelgroot gemaal uit de bloeiperiode van het Nederlandse stoomgemaal (gebouw 1869) en van het middelgroot stoomcentrifugaalpompgemaal uit de eindfase (gebouwd 1907). De aanwezige installatie is een representatief voorbeeld van een Nederlandse gelijkstoommachine uit de eindfase (1924). De vijf aanwezige wateropvoerwerktuigen (centrifugaalpompen) behoren tot de oudste voorbeelden die nog "in situ" zijn.

Description
Pumping station "de Vier Noorder Koggen". Built in 1869 as a replacement for some polder mills for the drainage of polder land to the former Zuiderzee. The pumping station consists of two parts: the old pumping station from 1869 and to its left the new pumping station from 1907. The old section consists of a machine- and boiler house under a gabled roof with pointed gables, flanked by two lower buildings for the water-lifting machinery (water wheels and screw pumps), both under hipped roofs. This old section has decoration with arch friezes and pilasters. The windows are round-arched, coupled in the machine- and boiler house. In the foundation the gates for the water outlet are installed. The section from 1907 consists of a blocklike machine house, next to which is a lower boiler house with a chimney standing behind it. The machine house has a central risalit, crowned with crenellations, arch friezes, arched windows and a rich application of coloured decorative brick. Inventory: four centrifugal pumps, installed in 1897 replacing the original water wheels and screw pumps, manufactured by W.H. Allen Son & Co in Bedford (England). They are driven by two electric motors from 1940. In the machine house of the section from 1907 a steam engine by Backer and Rueb from 1924 (replaced in 1970 by a diesel engine, but still intact) and a large centrifugal pump, manufacture Louis Smulders from 1907. In the boiler house two boilers, manufactured by the Machine factory "Brede" in 1926. Belonging to the complex are a service dwelling, a smithy-metalworking shop and a monumental lock complex, dated 1893. Important medium-sized pumping station from the flourishing period of the Dutch steam pumping station (building 1869) and of the medium-sized steam centrifugal pump station from the final phase (built 1907). The installation present is a representative example of a Dutch similar steam engine from the final phase (1924). The five water-lifting machines (centrifugal pumps) present belong to the oldest examples still in situ.
