Omschrijving
St. Bonifatius, 1882-1884, P.J.H. Cuypers.
Neogotische kruisbasiliek met aangebouwde sacristie en hoge westtoren bestaande uit een vrij korte, vierkante geleding, waarop een stenen en een houten lantaarn, bekroond door een hoge spits met trans.
Driebeukig transept, met vier zijden van een tienhoek gesloten apsis, waarbinnen een smalle omgang met zes slanke, natuurstenen pijlers.
Uitwendig wordt dit lagere, door kruisribgewelven en een straalgewelf overdekte presbyterium bekroond door een piramidevormig dak met topgevels.
Het geheel in baksteen uitgevoerde inwendige heeft bundelpijlers, laag aanzettende kruisribgewelven en een detaillering van traceringen en kapitelen in de geest van de dertiende eeuwse Franse gotiek. Roosvensters in de voorgevel, de eindgevels van het transept en de muur boven de apsis.
Kerk en toren behoren tot de belangrijkste werken van Cuypers en vertonen het gebruik van gotische motieven uit verscheidene streken, dat kenmerkend is voor zijn tweede periode.

St. Bonifatius, 1882-1884, P.J.H. Cuypers.
Neogothic cruciform basilica with attached sacristy and high west tower consisting of a relatively short, square articulation, on which a stone and a wooden lantern, crowned by a high spire with transoms.
Three-aisle transept, with four sides of a decagon closed apse, within which a narrow ambulatory with six slender, natural stone pillars.
Externally this lower presbytery, covered by cross-rib vaults and a radial vault, is crowned by a pyramidal roof with gable coping.
The interior, entirely executed in brick, has bundle piers, low-springing cross-rib vaults and a detailing of tracery and capitals in the spirit of thirteenth century French Gothic. Rose windows in the front gable, the end gables of the transept and the wall above the apse.
Church and tower belong to the most important works of Cuypers and display the use of Gothic motifs from various regions, which is characteristic of his second period.
The inventory includes an oak pulpit, circa 1700, probably from the former Jesuit station at the Vleesmarkt in Leeuwarden. In the choir a small organ by Cavaillé-Coll, made in 1887.
