De rondom de oude binnenstad gelegen wallen, afkomstig van de vroegere verdedigingswerken, in oorsprong daterend uit de twaalfde eeuw; tussen 1829 en 1885 naar plannen van J.D. Zocher geplantsoeneerd; met de daarbij behorende grachtengordel, te weten de grachten met hun kademuren of taluds. Voort de restanten van de onder Karel V gebouwde stenen bolwerken Zonnenburg, Sterrenburg en Maenenburg, de restanten van de voormalige Citadel Vredenburg en die van de vijf aarden bolwerken omstreeks 1580 aangelegd.

Description
The ramparts surrounding the old city center, originating from former defensive works, originally dating from the twelfth century; landscaped between 1829 and 1885 according to plans by J.D.
