Omschrijving
Voormalig Weeshuis, later leeszaal. Voor 1681 Gasthuiskapel. Bakstenen gebouw uit de XVIe eeuw met hoog leien zadeldak, bekroond door een open klokkentorentje met hoge spits (XVIe eeuw) en met klok. De voorgevel, in 1771-1772 verbouwd naar ontwerp van Philips Willem Schonck en met beeldhouwwerk in hardsteen door Guilliam carrier, heeft een plint, deur- en vensteromlijstingen en hardsteen. Boven de deur een hardstenen cartouche met het opschrift "Het Weeshuys". Inwendig in tweeën gedeeld door een zuil en twee muurzuilen met achtkante voetstukken en lijstkapitelen, welke twee spitsbogen dragen. Het gedeelte langs de Markt overdekt door een houten tongewelf met eiken ribben van peerkraalprofiel en bebording. In de oostmuur van dit gedeelte een spitsboognis. Voor het gebouw vijf fraaie stoeppalen in Lodewijk XV stijl uit 1772.

Description
Former Poorhouse, later reading room. Before 1681 Hospital Chapel. Brick building from the 16th century with high slate gabled roof, crowned by an open bell tower with high spire (16th century) and with bell. The front facade, rebuilt in 1771-1772 after a design by Philips Willem Schonck and with sculpture in sandstone by Guilliam carrier, has a plinth, door and window surrounds in sandstone. Above the door a sandstone cartouche with the inscription "Het Weeshuys". Internally divided into two parts by a column and two wall pillars with octagonal pedestals and moulded capitals, which carry two pointed arches. The section along the Markt covered by a wooden barrel vault with oak ribs of pear-bead profile and boarding. In the east wall of this section a pointed arch niche. In front of the building five fine bollards in Louis XV style from 1772.
