Omschrijving
Het Arsenaal, of landsmagazijn, gebouwd naar ontwerp van Philips Willem Schonck met gebeeldhouwde hardsteenversieringen van Guilliam Carrier, 1770- 1778. Bakstenen gebouw dat een vierkante binnenplaats omsluit. De middenpartij van de gevel aan de Haven vertoont een geverfde hardstenen bekleding om de ingangspoort, in het boogveld het wapen van het voormalige gewest Holland, te midden van krijgstrofeeën. Ter weerszijden van de drie ingangen gegoten vuurmonden als schamppalen. De zuidgevel, uitziende op de voormalige Hoofdwacht aan de Markt, vertoont een hardstenen middenpartij met poort. Description
The Arsenal, or state warehouse, built according to a design by Philips Willem Schonck with sculpted hard stone decorations by Guilliam Carrier, 1770-1778. Brick building enclosing a square courtyard. The central section of the facade on the Haven shows a painted hard stone facing around the entrance gate, in the spandrel the coat of arms of the former province of Holland, amidst military trophies. On either side of the three entrances cast cannon mouths as ornamental bollards. The south facade, overlooking the former Hoofdwacht on the Markt, shows a hard stone central section with gate. All windows with hard stone surrounds.
