Omschrijving
Ambtshuis. Rechthoekig gepleisterd gebouw ter breedte van zeven vensterassen, in oorsprong wellicht 16e eeuw, doch ingrijpend verbouwd bij de inrichting tot Ambtshuis in 1758 en nogmaals omstreeks 1840, welke laatste verbouwing bepalend is voor het aspect van het gebouw. Het thans als gemeentesecretarie fungerende Ambtshuis bestaat uit een lage begane-grond verdieping, verlicht door boogvensters. In de een weinig risalerende middenas de door Toscaanse pilasters omlijste ingang, bekroond door een hoofdgestel. De bel-etage van de benedenverdieping gescheiden door een cordonband, heeft hoge rechthoekige vensters, waarin achtruitsschuiframen. Het venster van de middenas, waarvoor een ijzeren balconhek, draagt een hoofdgestel op Empireconsles. Kroonlijst op klossen, boven de middenrisaliet driehoekig verhoogd om een halfrond venster. In 1920 is een nieuw dak aangebracht. Van de omstreeks 1840 of eerder aangebrachte interieurdecoratie is een in stuc uitgevoerde beeldengroep overgebleven, voorstellende de allegorische figuren van Maas en Waal, die een zuil met door bladkransen omlijst opschrift: "Inter Amnes Tuta" flankeren. Description
Ambtshuis. Rectangular rendered building seven window bays wide, originally perhaps 16th century, but substantially rebuilt when converted into an Ambtshuis in 1758 and again around 1840, this latter alteration determining the building's present appearance. The Ambtshuis, now functioning as municipal secretariat, consists of a low ground floor storey, lit by arched windows. In a slightly projecting central bay is the entrance framed by Tuscan pilasters, crowned by a pediment. The piano nobile of the ground storey, separated by a cordon band, has tall rectangular windows with sash windows. The window of the central bay, in front of which an iron balcony railing, bears a pediment on Empire consoles. Cornice on consoles, above the central projection triangularly raised around a semicircular window. In 1920 a new roof was installed. Of the interior decoration applied around 1840 or earlier, a sculptural group executed in stucco survives, depicting the allegorical figures of Meuse and Waal, which flank a column with an inscription framed by foliate wreaths: "Inter Amnes Tuta". This stuccowork, like a Justice figure, was executed by J.M. Rieff. Seating of the Vierschaar, carved in Louis XV style, circa 1760; now stored in the attic.
