Omschrijving
Stadhuis. GEBOUW van veertiende-eeuwse oorsprong op rechthoekige plattegrond. Oorspronkelijk bestemd als hal. Verbouwd 1544 en 1680. Gemoderniseerd 1635-43, waarbij gevels in neo-klassieke stijl voor het oude gebouw werden opgetrokken. De oorspronkelijke kap bleef bewaard.
De voorgevel aan het Stadhuisplein is bepleisterd met quasi-rustica tegen de sokkel. Breedte zeven vensterassen. Middenrisaliet, waarvoor Jonische zuilen, die een hoofdgestel met fronton dragen. Attiekverdieping. Op het dak een houten toren uit de verbouwing 1835-43.
Zijgevel aan de Groenmarkt in dezelfde geest als de voorgevel; zijgevel Voorstraat: baksteen met sokkelgeleding en hoekblokken van hardsteen. Houten kroonlijst met driehoekig fronton.
De zijvleugel tegen het rechter gedeelte dateert van ca. 1900.
Leeuwen naast de trap voor de façade gegoten door IJzergieterij L.J. Enthoven en Co, 's-Gravenhage 1841.
De overkluizing met bogen over de Voorstraatshaven onder het rechter deel van het gebouw is deels nog gotisch (Gobertange), deels in baksteen vernieuwd (achttiende eeuw). Zolder met gevangeniscellen (veertiende eeuw?).
Kelders (veertiende eew) met gebeeldhouwde sluitstenen in de gewelven.
Klokken gegoten door Pieter van Dormer en Sloterdijck te Dordrecht (1449) en door Gregorius Waghevens (1514).
Fraai gebouw van algemeen belang wegens bijzondere oudheidkundige en kunsthistorische waarde.

Description
Town Hall. BUILDING of fourteenth-century origin on rectangular floor plan. Originally intended as a hall. Rebuilt 1544 and 1680. Modernised 1635-43, whereby facades in neo-classical style were erected for the old building. The original roof structure was preserved.
The front facade on the Stadhuisplein is plastered with quasi-rustica against the plinth. Width of seven window bays. Central risalite, in front of which Ionic columns bearing a principal beam with pediment. Attic storey. On the roof a wooden tower from the 1835-43 rebuild.
Side facade on the Groenmarkt in the same spirit as the front facade; side facade Voorstraat: brickwork with plinth articulation and corner blocks of ashlar. Wooden cornice with triangular pediment.
The side wing against the right part dates from ca. 1900.
Lions beside the stairs in front of the facade cast by Ironworks L.J. Enthoven and Co, The Hague 1841.
The vaulting with arches over the Voorstraatshaven under the right part of the building is partly still Gothic (Gobertange), partly renewed in brickwork (eighteenth century). Attic with prison cells (fourteenth century?).
Cellars (fourteenth century) with sculptured voussoirs in the vaults.
