Omschrijving
Op gedeeltelijk door ijzeren hek, voorzien van vergulde lelies, omsloten kerkhof gelegen gebouw in, nog op het classicisme gerichte eclectische vormen (architect J.W.Maris) waarvan de toren (1856-1857) tegen de toenmalige gotische kerk en de huidige kerk, na afbraak van de gotische (1869) werden opgetrokken. Het geheel in rode baksteen, verlevendigd met witte stuc-banden en omlijstingen en rustend op ca. 1 meter hoge plint. Portalen en vensters, met glas-in-lood ramen, voorzien van ronde geprofileerde stuc-omlijsting; boven de westingang gedenkplaat met opschrift en datering 1869.
De hoeken van kerk en toren benadrukt door pilasters, waarin verdiepte velden; geprofileerde gootlijst, om en om per vak, rustend op consoles in de vorm van acanthusbladeren en omgekeerde denneappels. Boven de ingang in de koorsluiting een rond venster in stuc-omlijsting. De vierkante, uit drie geledingen bestaande, toren wordt bekroond door een spits in nogal barokke vorm, die sterk doet denken aan Noordduitse en Scandinavische torenbekroningen, en is voorzien van een windwijzer in de vorm van een Neptunus-achtige figuur. Klok met het wapen Ripperda.
Het ruime interieur, met zijn smalle, vlak overdekte zijbeuken en door gedrukt tongewelf overspannen middenbeuk, roept herinneringen op aan de Waterstaatsstijl. De scheiding tussen middenschip en zijbeuken wordt gevormd door slanke zuiltjes met acanthusbladkapiteel; eenklaviers mechanisch orgel, gemaakt door R. Meijer in 1878 voor een particuliere opdrachtgever, in 1914 geplaatst in de hervormde kerk te Weiwerd, in 1982, na sluiting en afbraak van de kerk te Weiwerd overgeplaatst naar het koor van de hervormde kerk te Farmsum; tweede orgel op galerij met balustrade werd in 1829 als orgel met Manuaal en Rugwerk gebouwd door N.A. Description
Building situated on a churchyard partly enclosed by an iron fence, provided with gilded lilies, in eclectic forms still oriented towards classicism (architect J.W.Maris) of which the tower (1856-1857) against the then Gothic church and the present church, after demolition of the Gothic (1869) were erected. The whole in red brick, enlivened with white stucco bands and mouldings and resting on approximately 1 metre high plinth. Portals and windows, with stained-glass windows, provided with round profiled stucco moulding; above the west entrance commemorative plaque with inscription and dating 1869.
The corners of church and tower emphasized by pilasters, with recessed fields; profiled gutter moulding, alternating per bay, resting on consoles in the form of acanthus leaves and inverted pine cones. Above the entrance in the choir closure a round window in stucco moulding. The square tower, consisting of three sections, is crowned by a spire in fairly baroque form, which strongly recalls North German and Scandinavian tower crownings, and is provided with a weathervane in the form of a Neptune-like figure. The spacious interior, with its narrow, flat-covered side aisles and middle nave spanned by a pressed barrel vault, evokes memories of the Waterstaatsstijl. The division between nave and side aisles is formed by slender columnettes with acanthus-leaf capital; one-manual mechanical organ, made by R. Meijer in 1878 for a private patron, placed in 1914 in the reformed church at Weiwerd, in 1982, after closure and demolition of the church at Weiwerd relocated to the choir of the reformed church at Farmsum; second organ on gallery with balustrade was built in 1829 as an organ with Manual and Backpositif by N.A. Lohman. In 1870 extended by P. van Oeckelen with a free Pedal; 19th-century brass chandeliers and furnishings; on gallery opposite the organ three male figures, from left to right Zwingli, Luther, and Calvin. Furthermore a vase from the Borgh Haykema in Zeerijp from the 17th century used as a baptismal font. Ledger stone for H.M.Ripperda, 1633, placed in the east wall, at the doors.
