Omschrijving
St.Elisabethweeshuis. Tussen 1557 en 1560 uit een legaat van gravin Elisabeth van Culemborg gebouwd complex, bestaande uit twee ongeveer haakse vleugels en een kapel, toegankelijk door een poort in het pand Herenstraat 29-31, Westvleugel gerestaureerd in 1960. Aan de westzijde de langgerekte meisjesvleugel, waaronder een monumentale, tweebeukige kelder met bakstenen zuilen en kruisgewelven die op bakstenen kolonetjes rusten, waarvan enkele gebeeldhouwde kraagstenen hebben. Van de zaal hierboven is het zuidelijk deel in 1800 als regentenkamer afgescheiden, hierin een schouw met stucwerk van F.M.Beretta. Op de verdieping en in de keuken gesneden sleutelstukken. In de oostgevel een gebeeldhouwde wapensteen met renaissanceomlijsting, gepolychromeerd. Aan de noordzijde de jongensvleugel, die tevens tot verblijf der geestelijke verzorgers diende. De zuidgevel hiervan heeft vensters met geprofileerde korfbogen en een deur met gesneden bovenlicht (1801). Haaks op de jongensvleugel aan de oostzijde de smalle kapel met natuurstenen ingangsomlijsting en vensters met korfbogen. Het complex bezit zadeldaken, waarvan de eindgevels schoorstenen met windkappen hebben. De westvleugel wordt gedekt door een dubbel zadeldak met zakgoot, aansluitend tegen dubbele topgevels. Het poortgebouw aan de Herenstraat wordt bekroond door een zadeldak, heeft aan de voorzijde een poortomlijsting met geblokte pilasters en siervazen (1782-1785), aan de achterzijde twee vensters in korfboognissen boven de doorgang en inwendig op de verdieping een kruisribgewelf en natuurstenen kraagstenen. Fragmenten van een 16e eeuwse schouw tegen de noordwand.

Description
St. Elizabeth Orphanage. A complex built between 1557 and 1560 from a bequest of Countess Elisabeth of Culemborg, consisting of two approximately perpendicular wings and a chapel, accessible through a gate in the building Herenstraat 29-31. On the west side the elongated girls' wing, under which a monumental two-aisle cellar with brick columns and cross vaults resting on brick colonettes, some of which have carved corbels.
