Exterior description and setting

Much extended two storey gabled house of c.1910, set on the W of the Killinchy Road, c.2.5 miles S of Comber.

The front (E) facade has a central glazed door with glazed sidelights and segmental arch fanlight with spoked tracery. The door, fanlight and sidelights are all recent replacements. The whole doorway ensemble is encased with a simple surround. Three steps to the doorway.

To the left and right of the doorway is a sash window with similar surround. To the first floor are three similar, but slightly smaller, windows.

There is a sash window (as front) to the ground floor on the N and the S gables. The S gable was having repair work carried out to its chimney breast when the writers visited.

To the rear there is a sash window to the left and to the right on the ground floor and to the first floor. Between these windows there projects an extremely large two storey gabled return which is larger than the original house. This return was largely built in the last year (1998-9) around what appears to have been a much smaller (?largely flat-roofed) return. The new return has PVC windows of various sizes and a set of partly glazed double doors to the S face. The N face is not entirely finished yet as a large gabled section is about to be added (the outline of it and the beginnings of the walls and roof can be seen).

All sections of the roof are covered in Bangor Blue slates with two brick chimney stacks to the original section.
The facade of the original section of the house is finished in lined render with chamfered quoins and base. The return is finished in rough cast. Metal and PVC rw goods.

Historical information

The present owner stated that his late father could remember this farm house being built, which he estimated would place its construction to c.1910. He also stated that it was built by two brothers named Gabbey, one or both of whom were draughtsmen.
