Exterior description and setting

Small, unassuming, plain, modern gabled church on the W side of Main Street, whose overall functional/basic appearance at best devoid of finesse and at worst crude and unattractive. The building is surrounded by an unattractive space for car parking to the E and a piece of ground which appears to be in the process of development, to the W.

The entrance is in the centre of the N gable and consists of a plain timber sheeted double door set in a slight recess with semicircular arch head. Above the doorway is a bell. Attached to the far left side of the W facade is a small projecting ‘boiler house’-like extension whose N facade is flush with the N gable. To the left of this extension (on the W facade) is a long modern PVC window with toughened ‘plastic’ ‘glass’. To the far right is a smaller but taller PVC window with similar glazing.

Attached to the centre of the S gable is a gabled projection which contains the altar area. The S facade of this projection has a central semicircular arch headed window filled with stained glass showing a religious scene. This stained glass appears to be much older than the church itself. To the immediate right of this projection (on the main S gable) is a timber sheeted door reached via four steps.

Attached to the W side of the projection is a flat roofed section whose W facade is flush with the W facade of the main building.

The church is rectangular with a gabled and pitched roof covered in corrugated asbestos. It is brick built but is painted white.

The E elevation of the main building contains a long central window, with much smaller window to either side, all much as the windows on the W elevation. Cast iron rw goods.
