Exterior description and setting

Single storey gabled house which has been greatly renovated in recent times and which has practically doubled in size, and which, to all intents an purposes, is a modern dwelling. The house is situated on a slight slope on the E side of the Ballybuttle Road.

The SE (length ways) side of the house contains the original wall and this facade now has five small windows with modern timber frames.

The house has been extended along the whole NW length (the wall thickness is considerably less on this side) with the pitch of the roof raised in the process and both gables broadened.

The NW facade now has four small windows with frames as previous. At the far left side of the NW facade is a recessed open ‘porch’ area which contains a timber sheeted door with small glazed panel.

The right side of the SW gable has a small gabled projection, all of the walls of which are blank. To the immediate left of the projection (on the main gable) is a timber sheeted [?front] door with a small glazed panel.

The NE gable has a small window (as before) to the right.

The entire facade is finished in a contrived looking rough render which has a mock ‘stone work’ effect.

The roof is pitched with concrete tiles and has a slight overhang to verge and eaves. There is a rendered chimney stack on the main roof which is not set on the ridge (probably because the pitch of the roof has been raised). The gabled projection has a similar chimney stack, similarly positioned. PVC rw goods.

Historical information

A narrower building is shown on this site on the OS Maps of 1833/4 and 1858-60, which probably corresponded to this house before the recent alterations. The building was greatly extended in c.1992 and work on the interior appears to be ongoing
