The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Small, simple rustic rubble bridge over a small stream, close to the edge of the garden to the rear of the mansion at Ballywalter Park, roughly half a mile south of Ballywalter.
The bridge is basic and merely consists of an arch c.1m wide with rough rubble voussoirs and a rubble faced base wall. The arch rises slightly above ground level giving the bridge a slight hump-backed appearance. There is no balustrade and vegetation surrounds the stonework.
Historical information
This simple bridge stands in contrast to the formal decorative bridges by Charles Lanyon elsewhere in Ballywalter Park. It was probably constructed during the laying out of the demesne garden in 1846-52.
