Exterior description and setting

Two storey hipped roof farmhouse, with large return and extensions to rear, PVC windows etc., set back from the Dunevly Road two miles SW of Cloughy.

Front NW elevation has central modern timber panelled and glazed door with three pane sidelights and elliptical arch ‘radial’ fanlight. Two PVC windows to left of door both with horizontal and vertical astragals and top hung upper openers. Two similar windows to right of door with five to first floor as before, except for larger centre ‘tripartite’ PVC window.

SW gable has single window to centre of ground and first floor (as ground floor front) with single similar window to centre ground floor of NE gable (but without astragals). Large gabled full height return to rear with variety of PVC windows. Single storey gabled extension attached to gable of return with PVC window, modern timber doors and a timber ‘garage’ door (to the NE side). Lean to PVC conservatory to NE side of return.

Main house and return finished in limestone chip render with smooth cement to window and door surrounds and to edges of walls. Chamfered quoins to front facade. Chamfered plinth to entire building. Extension to rear finished in limestone chip and smooth render on the SW side, with smooth render to NE side.

Roof of main house hipped with mixture of asbestos and asbestos free slate with similar mixture of slates to gabled roof of small rear extension and asbestos slates to gabled roof of return. PVC ogee gutters and PVC square down spouts. Two centred yellow brick chimney stacks (with dentilled corbelling) to main house, with a smaller red brick stack to gable of return. Slight overhang at eaves.

Large collection of (mainly modern) farm buildings to rear.

Historical information

A rectangular building is shown on the 1834 OS Map, slightly to the rear of the present main house. It appears probable that this building dates from the mid to later nineteenth century, with twentieth century additions.
