Exterior description and setting

Site of former terrace of single and two storey houses/cottages facing Strangford Lough (formerly 104-154 Shore Road), now completely demolished with modern dwellings of uniform style, but varying proportions, built in place.

The grouping was described in the first survey of March 1970 as 'Single and two storey terraces facing lough. Nos.104, 106, 108 and 110 comprise a single storey terrace. Roof slated. Walls rough cast. Doors sheeted. Windows drop hung, no astragals. Nos.108 and 110 have plain architraves and keystone. Nos 104, 106 and 108 have poor roof.
Nos 112-134 comprise a single storey terrace. Roof slated. Walls roughcast or rendered and lined. Doors sheeted. Windows drop hung, no astragals. Nos.132 and 134 dilapidated with broken roof. No.124 has architraves and keystone.
No.136-154 with exception of No.136 comprise a single storey terrace. No.136 is two storey. Nos.142-146 have all openings blocked. Nos.152-154 are on angle with Little Cook Street.
Roofs slated, generally poor. Walls generally rough cast and painted. Windows drop hung. Doors sheeted. No.148 has simple fanlight. Generally poor quality'.

Historical information

Former terrace shown on Patrick O’Hare’s 1799 map as ‘New Cook Street’ with a mixture of seemingly quite large and very small individual sites with buildings. Terrace demolished c.1972 and new houses built 1972/3.
