Exterior description and setting

Plain, modern looking, two storey terrace house which began life as a single storey dwelling, but was raised to its present height and completely renovated in [?]c.1990. The property is set within the terrace on the E side of the Shore Road, to the S of Portaferry town centre.

The front façade is asymmetrical and faces roughly W. Off centre front doorway with PVC double door and plain narrow fanlight. Two pane PVC windows to left and right with top hung upper openers and simulated horizontal astragals between double glazing. Concrete cills. Two windows to first floor as before. The front façade is finished in unpainted lined render.

The ground floor level to the rear is completely covered by a large modern single storey extension. To the first floor main rear façade there are three modern window openings. The rear façade is finished in what appears to be a dry dash.

The gabled roof is covered with asbestos slates with a small rendered chimney stack in centre, with single pot. PVC gutters and down spouts. Pitched roof and lean to extensions at rear.

Historical information

Site with building shown on Patrick O’Hare’s 1799 map, when it was in possession of a William McAnnally and on OS Maps of 1834 and 1860. This house was originally a one storey dwelling with dormers and has had a storey added some time around c.1990.
